I’ve had a handful of virtual private clients over the last year, and it’s been such a valuable thing for my teaching during these times.

A chance to work one on one with folks is a chance for collaboration. A chance to try things out in a different way than in a group class, ask questions and get feedback.

I’m so grateful for those virtual clients who have worked with me in this weird and wild way. Thanks your your time, trust and feedback, it’s been so valuable.

If you are interested in private sessions, please check out my website and let me know through the contact form. I’m also gently planning to add some time for IN PERSON privates and semi-privates in September (in Hamilton) so if you are interested, keep in the loop and sign up for my newsletter! (Link in bio, to sign up!)

For those not ready for the IRL rush, don’t worry, we’ve still got you covered virtually

Join me on Monday evenings (hey now, that’s tonight!) for Be Centred at 5:30pm ET, or Sunday mornings at the *new* time, 9:30am ET for Be Whole.

Sliding scale pricing, replay classes available if you can’t make it live and as always a camera off or on environment. In virtual classes, you can TRULY come as you are. Eating toast, surrounded by furry housemates or maybe in your un**es?

My human housemates are napping, so I’m taking selfies with my flowers as one does.

Oh it’s Thursday, so I can RIGHT?

Been having a love affair with my trusty ol’ Linus commuter again. Cycling feels like freedom for me! These days I have a bright yellow trailer attached with a small human in it half the time I’m in it (and I always wear a helmet, this was for vanity’s sake!), but still there’s nothing like that bike feelin’!

Hope you can ride through the rest of the week with a little freedom and ease.

An ode to the squish ball.

When I first took a Pilates class featuring this magical prop, my Yogi mind was blown. A very un-assuming little thing… but wow wow wow, does it pack a lot of possibilities.

Add it for support, add it for challenge, add it for feedback or add it for fun!

My all times favourite squish ball sequence involves it under one foot in hip bridge and some delightful hamstring feels (some of you who took in studio classes with me will remember this I am sure 😉)

Tell me, how do you like to “have a ball”!

The Pilates-V… did you know that even if you can’t get your heels to press together, you can still benefit from the Pilates repertoire! It’s true!

Fellow thick thighs humans, guess what, pressing your inner thoughts together is going to help you fine core connection through your adductors! It’s true!

Any shape that can be made in a “classical” practice, can be adapted. Sometimes it’s easy, sometimes it takes some more consideration and trial and error.

If anyone is telling you your body needs to adapt to the movements, instead of giving you agency to adapt the movements to suit you.

RE: the balance of give and take.
⚖️
As we tinker in the edge of the week ahead, I’m reflecting on what I need, and what I can foresee my family, friends, peers and clients need from me. How can I fill my cup before I redistribute?

Hope you can balance out your intentions for the week as well.

It’s the last day, but I thought I’d submit a photo for the METTAMADE] giveaway, and talk a bit about my personal style.

I’ve always been interested in fashion. I subscribed to Vogue religiously for years. Often seeing pages upon pages of rail thin models draped in fantastic fabrics. Another affirmation that, if I wanted to dress that way, I’d have to keep working on making myself smaller.

I’m so grateful for more representation of more diverse bodies in the media these days. I truly believe that if I had seen images of models with body types that more resembled my own, my “body image baggage” would have been lighter to unpack.

Today, my personal style looks like: comfy good quality basics (like this “vintage” METTAMADE] culotte jumpsuit and the bra under it- I’m never wearing an underwire again y’all) fun thirties pieces (like this amazing colour block windbreaker from ) fucntional accessories (hello F***y pack from ) and GOLD jewellery (cause I love that ✨✨✨)

For so long I stuck to what was”flattering” on my body. Well… f**k flattering, let’s start dressing to feel good instead. After 16 months in leisure wear, it’s time to take that comfy vibe OUT INTO THE WORLD!

[Image ID: Jo stands in front of her house, in a deep green jumpsuit and a raincoat that is orange blue and green. Her front door is green and her door mat is leopard print. She holds an leopard print umbrella high in the air dramatically. Her eyes are closed, blissed out by cooling summer rain]

I've been thinking a lot about the balance between how much I give and how much I receive these days. It seems to wax and wane just like the phases of the moon, how much I feel like I can carry, versus how much I need to ask or accept help.

I'm a parent, a partner and a “hoder” of space for other folks. I am also someone who loves a plan, and loves to be in control. I tend to naturally lean towards the GIVE, but I've been trying to get better at asking for what I need. It's a practice in release and a practice of trust in yourself and those in your network.

This is vulnerable, hard work for some of us - I feel it too. But I have noticed that the more help I receive, the more capacity I have to help others. Our actions are impactful and reciprocal and another reminder that we are not alone in these times.
