Twenty-five years ago, Jimmy Rankin stepped into a new chapter.

Following a decade with The Rankin Family, Jimmy struck out on his own and released Song Dog — the album that launched his solo career and introduced fans to a bold new sound rooted in Cape Breton, country, folk, rock, and Americana.

Now, for the first time, Jimmy is bringing Song Dog back to the stage and performing the album live in its entirety as part of the Song Dog 25th Anniversary Tour.

Featuring classics like Followed Her Around alongside favourites from across his remarkable catalogue, this special concert celebrates the songs, stories, and spirit of an album that helped define a new era in Canadian music.

Whether you were there when Song Dog first arrived or you're discovering it for the first time, this is a show you won't want to miss.

• Presale: Wednesday, June 3 at 10:00 AM local time (SONGDOG25)
• General On Sale: Friday, June 5 at 10:00 AM local time

Happy birthday Jimmy! ❤🥂🍾

Our mother was incredibly tenacious and resilient raising 12 children without a lot of resources. She encouraged all the music in our home and she provided the foundation for four of my older siblings and I to eventually form the Rankin Family band. She was at the heart of that. Thinking of her with so much love today. 💐

Playing at the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame opening of their new venue tonight and was reminded of this blast from the past when I played to honour the top 15 athlete/inductees.

From backstage in New Glasgow… here’s a little taste of what’s to come. 🎶

In this clip we’re singing a bit of the beautiful classic “Snowbird”, written by the legendary Gene MacLellan — a song that never gets old. It felt especially fitting to sing a few lines backstage with Catherine MacLellan and J.P. Cormier before heading out to the stage.

Next up we’re heading to Port Hawkesbury on Saturday, March 7. If you’re nearby, come on out and join us for the night. We’d love to see you there. Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre

Right before we hit the stage at the Halifax Casino last weekend… 🎥🎶

There’s nothing better than sharing the stage with J.P. Cormier and Catherine MacLellan - three friends, a pile of songs, and a whole lot of stories. We’re having the best time performing together and getting to share the heart behind these tunes with you.

Halifax, you were some kind of crowd. 🙌

Two shows down and we’re just getting warmed up…
Next stop: New Glasgow and Port Hawkesbury.

March 4 - New Glasglow Glasgow Square Theatre
March 7 - Port Hawkesbury Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre

The idea behind the Kitchen Party is simple.

It’s not about the spotlight it’s about the songs.
The stories behind them.
And the moments we share when the music is stripped back and the room leans in a little closer.

This Songwriters Edition is exactly that. No big production. Just three musicians, a lifetime of songs, and the magic that happens when we listen.

Tonight, Summerside, PEI - Harbourfront Theatre
Tomorrow, Halifax, NS - SOLD OUT - Casino Nova Scotia
March 4, New Glasgow, NS - Glasgow Square Theatre
March 7, Port Hawkesbury, NS - Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre

Really looking forward to hitting the road this week. ❤️

Catherine MacLellan put together this lovely video about our upcoming shows — and I couldn’t have said it better myself.

We kick things off this Friday in Summerside, PEI, and I can’t wait to get back in a room full of music and familiar faces. These shows are going to be something special.

Have a listen to what Catherine has to say — and if we’re coming your way, grab your tickets and come join us.

See you soon!
