too many cis providers profit off gatekeeping trans healthcare! while the WPATH letters of readiness for trans surgical care are antiquated and exploitative, they are still required by MSI for approval, and many family doctors still want a therapist letter for youth accessing puberty blockers or hormones (adults do NOT need any sort of letters for hormones under the informed consent model).

the historical pathologization of trans healthcare is one that social workers and therapists have participated in, normalized, and profited from for decades. given that, therapists have an ethical responsibility to help make these letters accessible and free, and to make the process as minimally invasive as we can.
