At times you play your guitar, piano or bass and it feels like everything is working as it should, like you are in the zone.

And then the next day it feels like you forgot how to play and can't seem to get anything right.

This is common so it's not just you.

Remember that you do not feel the same way every time you sit down to practice.

Your day did not go the same as yesterday, the weather is different, etc.

Your mental state, environment and other things can affect your focus and your mood.

That will affect how you play your instrument.

Next time it happens to you just stop, take a deep breath, clear your mind.

Then start playing everything a little slower to help you get on track.

Perfection is not a good standard when you first start learning guitar, piano or bass.

This is a sure way to get frustrated, discouraged and will slow your progress.

It's asking way too much of yourself.

It takes time before your fingers learn to cooperate so be patient with yourself.

Practicing the same things all the time is a sure way to slow your progress.

We think we need to "perfect" something before we move on to new things.

However, if you don't expand your abilities you will not become a better player.

A good teacher will challenge you to grow but not so much that you can't keep up.

Learning to play guitar, piano or bass as an adult has several advantages:

2. Your fine motor skills are more developed

3. You are internally motivated
