Here are some steps you can take to turn your dream of playing guitar, piano or bass into reality today:

1 - Make a definite commitment

A strong commitment is the foundation to success when learning an instrument.

When things get tough, this will allow you to push through.

2 - Buy a good instrument

Buying the right instrument from the start will help make it easier but it is not necessary.

Try to avoid the cheapest options as they tend to be harder to play.

3 - Get on the best and fastest path to learning

There are many methods you can use to learn guitar, piano or bass.

Apps, videos, courses, or books, are abundant.

The problem is that most people struggle with them.

The best and fastest way to learn these is to take lessons with a good teacher in your local area.

Having that personal touch makes all the difference.

Warm up for a few minutes before you practice.

This gets you ready physically and mentally so you get the most out of a session.

Using your warmup time effectively will also help you make more progress.

You only have so much time to practice so you want to use every minute to get better.

When you warm up, use something you find challenging.

The key is to do it very slow, and make sure your mind is fully engaged throughout the process.

This will increase your skills as well as get your hands and mind ready :)

Learning to play guitar was not easy for me.

I tried to teach myself which turned into a long and frustrating journey.

It led me to believe I was not meant to play guitar.

I felt that I was not gifted nor talented musically.

What saved me was persistence - I was stubborn and refused to give up.

If you find it difficult to learn on your own you are not alone.

But don't do it my long and hard way.

Instead, find a great guitar teacher and watch your dream of playing guitar come true!

HOW LONG DO GUITAR STRINGS LAST BEFORE THEY NEED TO BE CHANGED? I WAIT UNTIL I SEE DISCOLOURATION OF THE STRINGS. WHEN THEY START TO LOSE THEIR SHINE, IT'S TIME TO CONSIDER CHANGING THEM.

You sit down to practice and feel like you have gone backwards in your playing.

What's going on?

The good news is this happens to most of us.

It's normal and happens more often when you are first starting out.

The thing is you did not go backwards at all.

More than likely your ability to focus is lower than usual.

Stress from work, family, lack of sleep, being in a rush, etc.

All these and more can cause you to make mistakes you were not making before.

Instead of putting your instrument down in these moments, change the focus.

Slow down, play something you are already good at and have some fun.

Relax and build some confidence.

Then you can go back to the frustrating thing and play it again.

This time play it very slow and build from there.

Taking breaks from learning guitar, piano or bass can be a problem:

1 - You can lose the momentum you have built up including the habits that kept you moving forward

2 - You will practice less, or worse, you will stop altogether (the latter is more likely)

3 - Your skills can go backwards, which means you lose your investment in time and money

You've worked hard and put in a lot of time to get to the place you are at in your playing.

Taking a break will disrupt this.

As much as you plan to practice during your break it usually does not happen.

If at all possible, stay plugged in, keep learning and keep moving forward :)

Learning to play guitar, piano or bass can be frustrating at times.

This is more likely when you are trying to teach yourself.

Without feedback from someone who knows what they are doing, it's easy to make mistakes and get lost.

You can make things easier for yourself by finding a great teacher.

They will support you and help you overcome all the challenges that you will face on your journey.
