Andrew Raymond had a great day: "Two of us hikers approached Rocky ravine downstream downwind and Saw Three mature wolverines eating some sort of kill pinched in the rocks two of them saw us and departed and one continued to eat and when he saw us again left charge just I'm assuming to protect his food then eventually decided to leave as we continued our crossing he poked his head over from a few different spots to check on us and then disappeared."

In early September, juveniles would be the same size as their mom or larger (young males). So it's quite likely that this was a family group. Bluff "charges" aren't unexpected if there's food, and wolverines can sound vicious, although actual attacks on humans aren't a thing. Leaving wildlife alone is always the best strategy.

We haven't checked yet if we know this chest pattern... the photos are from the Monashees, near Revelstoke, British Columbia.

🐾 "Saw fresh tracks while snowcat skiing. Tracks were headed west along Ridge and gaining elevation." Thank you for this submission from the Cariboos! It's the time of year where we start to get really interested in sightings throughout western Canada (but really anywhere in North America) especially of anything that looks like a reproductive den!

Female wolverine give birth between mid January and February, but usually not every year. We are looking for any observations that suggest a denning female is close by. More info on our website on how to recognize and report denning areas.
