AJ came into Alberta Dachshund Rescue two years ago, and on July 1, he celebrated his incredible 17th birthday!

Like many senior dogs, AJ has a few health struggles, including dementia, but he certainly isn’t letting that slow him down. He still enjoys wandering through the grass, soaking up the sunshine and living life at his own sweet little pace.

Every donation to Alberta Dachshund Rescue helps us provide dogs like AJ with the veterinary care, comfort and support they need. Whether they are young, old or somewhere in between, every dachshund deserves to feel safe, loved and cherished.

**HOGS & LOWRIDERS — AND NO, WE’RE NOT TALKING ABOUT THE PARKING LOT!**

Things are about to get a little weird at **Blackjacks Roadhouse**… and we are 100% here for it.

Join **Alberta Dachshund Rescue** and our friends from **Rosie’s Best Friends Farm Sanctuary Society** on **Saturday, August 15 from 11 AM–4 PM** for an afternoon featuring two of the finest athletes the animal kingdom has to offer:

🐷 PIGS.
🌭 WIENER DOGS.

Short legs. Questionable listening skills. Absolutely ZERO concern about staying in their lane.

**RACE SCHEDULE**
🌭 12 PM — Wiener Dog Races
🐷 1 PM — Pig Races
🌭 2 PM — Wiener Dog Races
🐷 3 PM — Pig Races

Basically, something with short legs will be running every hour. 😂

Your wiener’s racing career may not be over! Come to the ADR booth **at least 30 minutes before the race** and ask if we have a spot available.

🐾 **Meet Mays & Ace** 🐾

Sometimes life changes in an instant.

Mays and Ace found themselves back in the care of Alberta Dachshund Rescue after their beloved owner unexpectedly passed away. Through it all, these two have remained by each other's side, proving just how special their bond truly is.

This adorable duo are siblings, born just one litter apart, and they've spent their lives together. As they've gotten older, Ace's coat has developed into a beautiful brown dapple, while Mays is a stunning blonde with a personality that quietly steals your heart.

Like many dogs who have experienced loss and change, Mays and Ace take a little time to warm up to new people. Mays is the brave one who decides whether you're worthy of joining their inner circle—and once she gives her approval, Ace isn't far behind.

They may be a little reserved at first, but once you've earned their trust, you'll have two incredibly devoted companions. In fact, they'll insist that sharing your bed is simply non-negotiable!

Mays and Ace are both being treated for seizures and require medication every 12 hours. They do wonderfully with their routine, and with a dedicated family who can keep them on schedule, they continue to enjoy happy, love-filled lives.

These sweet seniors have already lost so much. Now they're looking for a compassionate forever home where they can stay together, feel safe, and spend their golden years surrounded by the love they deserve. ❤️

Some dogs just have a way of telling you where they’re meant to be.

Our little Po is one of those dogs.

When his application came in, something just felt right. While we don’t offer foster-to-adopt very often, there are times when our hearts tell us we’ve found the right match, and we want to give both the dog and the family the opportunity to ensure it’s the perfect fit before making the adoption official.

This is also a great reminder of why it’s so important to get your adoption application in as soon as possible. We often receive many applications for a single dog, and sometimes the right match is already sitting in our application queue before a dog is even fully ready for adoption. Having an approved application on file means we can move quickly when that special dog comes along.

Our adoption process isn’t first come, first served—it’s about finding the best match for both the dog and the family. But if we don’t have your application, we can’t consider you when that perfect fit appears.

We’re so happy to share that Po went straight into a foster-to-adopt home, and from everything we’ve seen so far, this little guy is exactly where he was meant to be.

Congratulations to Po and his wonderful family! Thank you for opening your hearts and giving this little man the loving home he deserves. We can’t wait to watch this beautiful story continue.

Today is a bittersweet day as our sweet little Chiweenie, Lily, heads off to her forever home.

A huge thank you to Dean and his family for opening your hearts and home to Lily while she waited for her perfect match. Being a foster family means giving these dogs a safe place to land, helping them heal, and loving them enough to let them go when the right family comes along.

Because of your kindness, Lily got the happy ending she deserved. Thank you for being such an important part of her journey.
