Author Versus AI
One author will take on AI & win. The challenge: write a book a week in 2024.

For Author Versus AI videos, I'm still playing the catch-up game from when I was sick this past month. Here are two more books that I was working on during that time - a YA coming-of-age story called When Autumn Leaves and the first book in a 3-book series of sports rom-coms called For Love & Rivalry. Both summaries of what the books are about and excerpts from the books are posted on my website.
More coming soon!
Catching Up, Part II I'm still playing catch-up to tell everyone what I was working on for the 4 weeks that I was sick, so here are a couple more of the books that you missed. First up is When Autumn Leaves , a YA...

As promised, here's a post I'm sharing about me working hard to catch up with everything that's been going on the past month with Author Versus AI while I've been sick. I've posted 3 videos on my blog and I still have several to go over the next couple of days.
To sum up: I read an excerpt from the novel I wrote in Week 22 (epic fantasy: Of Seas & Crowns) and read the summary and the excerpt from the novel I wrote in Week 23 (urban fantasy: The Red King of Chinatown).
That's all for today - have a great night!
Catching Up, Part 1 After being sick for so long, I have a lot of catching up to do in letting everyone know what's been going on with Author Versus AI! So, without further ado, here's my first grouping of videos to...

A LOT has been going on recently. In the past 4 weeks, I've been in California helping my parents get their things packed up and house fixed up to sell, since they're going to move up to my neck of the woods in Alberta. Also during that time I got pretty sick and lost my voice, pretty much for 3 weeks+, and so I wasn't able to record or post any of my normal Author Versus AI videos.
However, I'm pretty much recovered now (and got my voice back - yay), and even posted a short "proof of life" video on my website: https://www.authorversusai.com/home/im-back
Now, I have a bit of catch-up to do to let everyone know the 4 books that I've missed talking about this past month, as well as my new book for this week. I'll be recording and posting some videos this week to get myself all caught up.
Hope everyone had a good month (hopefully a better one than I had while sick)!
I'm Back! I'm here to say that I'm not dead! Thank goodness. :) I was pretty sick for about 4 weeks while visiting my parents in California, but now I'm back and ready to tell you all about the books I've...

What a week! This morning, I started out my day on the podcast This Week In Indies (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEeZ7c2uAsI) and this afternoon, I finished my 21st book for Author Versus AI. Phew!
I also did something a bit fun (I hope). The novel this week is called Ruin of the Sceptre, and it's a book written from a short story, which in turn was written from a book. These different versions span about 30 years in my life. I thought it would be interesting to read a short excerpt from each one as a compare/contrast. They're all based around the same characters/story, but they reflect where I was in different points of my writing life.
Well, here they are: https://www.authorversusai.com/home/to-eltrand-and-beyond - hope you enjoy listening!
To Eltrand and Beyond... I started out this morning on the fabulous podcast This Week In Indies , and had a great time chatting with fellow authors Don Sawyer , Tricia Copeland , Steffanie Costigan , and host SM Hillman ....

I'm still zooming ahead in my Author Versus AI project (although I'm a tad late reading my excerpt from last week - but, hey, s**t happens. LOL). But I DID finish up The Greenhouse Binary - please enjoy an excerpt from the first chapter here: https://www.authorversusai.com/home/the-world-it-is-a-changing
And now I'm jumping into my new novel, Ruin of the Sceptre, a sword & sorcery novel with a convoluted history. It was a book I started writing as a teen, abandoned for 2 decades, resurrected as a short story about a decade ago and got published as "The Soldier's Choice" in Swords and Sorcery Magazine, and now I'm resurrecting it AGAIN as... you guessed it... a book. I've come full circle. 😅
Learn more about how the adventure begins here: https://www.authorversusai.com/home/week-21-sword-sorcery
I'll be back to read an excerpt from it on Sunday. Until then, have a fantastic week!

My new book for Author Versus AI this week is called The Greenhouse Binary, and it's an LGBTQ+ women's fiction story centered around generational climate change. It will be a challenge to cross all these genres, but should be fun! Here's what it's all about:

See you on Sunday. Hope everyone has a fabulous week!

Last week, I wrote TWO books (technically 1 novel and 1 novella). The first was for my Author Versus AI project and the second was for The International 3-Day Novel Contest. Total word count for both was about 70k for 8 days (since the 3-Day Novel Contest is over Labor Day and includes Monday).
I am ready to fall over! But after I do, check out the excerpt I read on my website for my Author Versus AI book: To Ride the River. Enjoy!
Not the Cowboy You Were Looking For Last week was an absolutely insane writing week, if you can't tell based on my word count from my previous post. Last week's totals included 40,889 words for Author Versus AI AND 21,615 words for...

Okay, I'm heading into REALLY uncharted territory this week because I'm not just writing ONE book for Author Versus AI, I'm going to write TWO.
Why the heck am I doing this? I wrote a blog post about what this week means and where it might take me:
Week 19 - Western Romance This week, I'm headed into the wild, wild West with a Western romance novel called To Ride the River . BUT before I tell you more about it, I have to say that this week I'm going to tackle a brand...

Sometimes I have to take a minute to think about what week I'm in for Author Versus AI. Who am I again? Where am I? LOL.
But no matter the details, I've managed to write "The End" to another novel, this one a YA book called The Bruises of Grandma Summer. And hopefully at the end of the road, both characters have found some healing along the way.
Here's an excerpt from the book, which I hope is entertaining. Next week, I'll be heading to the wild, wild West. Stay tuned until tomorrow! :)
The Healing Power of Love I'm back on track again this week now that I've recovered from attending the writing conference last weekend in Calgary. It was a lot of fun, but very tiring! I've crossed the finish line for The...

I had a wonderful time at When Words Collide writing festival - I met some lovely writers and editors, as well as hanging out with friends and acquaintances from months past.
BUT... it did cause me to be a bit late in doing my posts about my novel from last week and the new novel from this week.
Last week, I finished and read an excerpt of my steampunk book here: https://www.authorversusai.com/home/off-into-the-stars and this week I started a YA book called The Bruises of Grandma Summer. You can get more info about it here: https://www.authorversusai.com/home/week-17-ya
Whew! Okay, I'm going to try to catch up on everything that I've fallen behind on (ha). Hope you all have an awesome week! :)
Off Into the Stars! I have to say that last week was a bit of a struggle (one reason why I'm a couple days late posting this). The main reason was because I was at the wonderful When Words Collide literary festival in...

I'm switching gears in Author Versus AI this week to... steampunk! Steampunk romance, to be exact. It's a genre I don't think I've ever written before, so this will be a lot of fun. :)
My new book is called The Space of Hearts, and it'll be about a steampunk space race in Victorian England.
Week 17 - Steampunk Romance I'm back in brand new territory this week with my next book, which is steampunk romance. I can't recall ever writing in this genre, especially not for a book-length project. My new novel is called...
