Meet Nick Kanakos, the husband to longtime retired Delta Councillor Jeanie Kanakos!
💼 Current profession:
Delta School Board Trustee and retired Delta School Teacher
🏡 Lives:

✅Strengths on the Team:
⁃ He brings a strong understanding of local governance and procedures after serving as a Delta Trustee for over 15 years

⁃ He brings an interest in practical infrastructure and community issues, as demonstrated in his involvement in the North Delta track upgrades
⁃ He also brings a long history of community service, for which he received the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee award in recognition of his community service
✍️ Bio:
Nick Kanakos has served Delta for more than 15 years as an elected Trustee on the Delta Board of Education. He is recognized for his commitment to governance, fiscal responsibility, and long-term planning that support students and the broader community. Throughout his tenure, he has worked collaboratively with local and provincial partners to maintain balanced budgets, improve learning environments, and strengthen public confidence in governance.
He helped advance the North Delta track upgrades, which was a major community infrastructure project. In 2022, he received the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee award for community service. A long-time North Delta resident, he remains committed to responsible leadership and the Delta community’s well-being.
On May 11, Delta council voted on the Dennison Gate project. A proposed 50-unit stacked townhouse development at 686 52 Street in Tsawwassen.
We understand the need for more housing in Delta. But the details here matter.
The BC Hydro right-of-way occupies approximately 55% of the total site, meaning the seven three-storey buildings are compressed into what’s left. The parking plan relies on that same right-of-way. And the development sits directly beside established single-family homes, with real impacts on privacy and neighbourhood character.
Mayor Harvie and Councillor Guichon voted no. Councillor Dosanjh was receiving hospital care and unable to be present. The remaining four councillors voted yes and it passed first, second and third readings.
Final adoption still has to come before Council. We’ll continue to advocate for development in Tsawwassen that meets the community’s need for housing and respects the neighbourhood it’s being built into.
