My first outdoor tournament of the 2025 outdoor season this past week was the 2025 Gator Cup in Newberry, Florida. It was a great event with a lot of ups and downs…
I arrived a few days early to get some “real” outdoor practice in because it’s still not possible to shoot outside very much back home. It felt good to be able to be out in the hot sun and shooting 50M with my new bow when, all of a sudden, my arrows started going all over the place. It took me a little while to figure out what the problem was because it turned out to be the last thing I expected. The end serving on my bow string had broken right around the top-cam and slowly started to unwind and bunch up. This can cause a multitude of problems with the performance of the bow. This issue had never happened to me before but thanks to the Lancaster Archery Supply truck that had brought a bow-press to the tournament, I was able to get the string semi-fixed so it would at least function as a backup bow. But it meant that my brand new bow that I had been training with for the past 3-months had to be set aside and now I had to use my old bow from last year. You might not think this is a big deal because I had shot this bow so much already, but since these 2 bows are completely different, it meant I had to adapt quickly to the change and build my confidence shooting this bow again in 1-day!
The first competition day was the Mixed-Team event. My partner for this year was the same as last year, Kaylee Gurney, who is an absolutely magnificent and talented shooter. Last year we lost in the finals and ended up taking Silver and we were looking to better that with the Gold Medal win. Unfortunately we ended up losing our first match to 2 incredible shooters 156-151 (160 MAX in Mixed-Team matches). It was a bit of a struggle with the wind but we just had some arrows not go our way and with a bye in our first round we never got a chance to get in a rhythm together before taking on the team that would eventually finis

First Paralympic Games for me is over...Canada doesn't have/didn't qualify a female compound archer so I don't get to compete in the Mixed Team event this afternoon...Hopefully over the next 4 years that will change!

Today we started Para taekwondo with the “Trois Coups” held by famous actor Jackie Chan.
In theatre, les trois coups (the three blows) are hit on the floor of the stage with a stick called brigadier, just before the start of a performance, in order to attract public attention for the rise of the curtain.
