Dummy calf alert! Give us your best tricks for getting a calf that refuses to nurse, to nurse! Josh and I have had mom’s tit directly its mouth, we’ve squirted milk from mom in its mouth, tried a bottle and have even attempted the Madigan Squeeze (thanks YouTube). No luck so far and we’ve had to tube the dummy 3 times.
And yes, we realize that she’s got a terrible bag 🙃
In Manitoba, this is referred to as Third Winter, which is followed by mud season and then the arrival of Spring
I was just taking about that one Highland who has looked ready to calve for about the last 2 weeks, and guess who decided to calve today! Our Highlands are officially over 50% done calving now.
Yesterday we found Poppy snuggled in the straw with her Grandma, Dolly.
