February voted CSSAA Athlete of the Month
Kobe Li ๐ from .athletics
Kobe Li is a Grade 12 athlete at Port Moody Secondary. Heโs a multi sport athlete competing in basketball, cross country, track and field, and ultimate. He is a cornerstone of the boys basketball program, playing on the Senior team since Grade 10. Kobeโs play has improved steadily over the years. This year in Grade 12, he is one of the captains of the team, averaging over 15 points per game in league play. Heโs a tough, vocal leader who will do whatever it takes to win games.ย Not only has he been the steady hand as our starting PG but he helps with planning, scheduling, and even some coaching. He will initiate the offense, get teammates in the right spots, get them the ball in their spots, while also being able to score at all three levels. On the defensive end, Kobe is a tone setter. Heโs a tenacious on ball defender who applies a lot of pressure on ball handlers which creates many steals, deflected passes, and turnovers. Kobe has helped shift the culture and elevated the entire basketball program. Off the court, Kobe is an active leader in Port Moodyโs athletic community. He started the .athletics Instagram account and has exponentially improved the schoolโs social media exposure for athletes and sports teams. Kobeโs initiative, passion, and service to the school as both an athlete and photographer is second to none and will leave positive impacts on school spirit and culture for years to come.

December voted CSSAA Athlete of the Month
Paige Korbely ๐ from
Paige is a grade 11 student at Pinetree Secondary who has excelled at both cross country and swimming as a prominent member on both teams. This year, Paige competed at the senior level and took home the Gail Sayers award with the fastest time for females. She qualified for provincials but was unable to attend due to her swimming commitments. Regarding swimming, she started when she was 7 years old and her love of swimming has seen her continue to advance. As captain of Pinetreeโs aquatic team, she and three others represented Pinetree at provincials in Nanaimo this past fall. Outside of school, Paige is on both Team BC as well as Team Canada. She is going through Olympic trials this year to make the next Olympics. Another accomplishment that Paige is particularly proud of is her ability to maintain very good marks in all her classes and participate in other sports despite training around 20 hours a week in the pool.
