☕ As much as we want to expense all of our meals and bevvies, only certain situations qualify as a reasonable business expense in the 👀 of the CRA. Above are helpful tips to help you document your meals expense properly.
Can you think of a situation you're unsure about whether or not it qualifies as a business meal expense? Send me a DM! 🥂

Merry Christmas from Uplift Bookkeeping! 🎅 I will be spending our Christmas Eve dinner with family and having a Christmas brunch filled with pancakes and bacon at a local diner the next day, a tradition my hubby and I started a few years ago.

Most of my clients get dinged for e-transfers, cash deposits and filing fees. With the EQ business bank account not only do you not have to pay those pesky fees but you also earn 💰interest💰 on your entire balance. This is perfect for small business owners like me where every $ counts and want to optimize the money sitting in their bank account.
Currently, only existing EQ bank customers can open a business bank account, but you can put yourself on the waitlist for when they make it available to the everyone!
Again, I'm not being paid to advertise this (I wish I was LOL). I just want to make you guys aware that there are banks out there who have better offers for small business owners like you and me! 💰

Maintaining good bookkeeping practices is crucial for the success of any business, but it can be overwhelming for busy small business owners who do not have an in house accountant and/or bookkeeper. If you don't think you'll have the time to go through the year-end checklist, consider working with a bookkeeper to get your books up to date (a one time catch-up project) and in return, your CPA will thank you for submitting your financial statements ON TIME. 🙌🙌🙌

You'll only see the results of our labor, which is a secure link to their financial statements for the month - signed, sealed, and delivered straight to your inbox. What you don't see is the countless hours spent sifting through your transactions, double checking the GST amounts and categories, reviewing what you've spent last period vs current and figuring out the the reasons for the big jumps between periods, if any.
You'll only ever see the finished product, and that's because you paid to not have to worry about bookkeeping ever again.

Can you relate to this one? 🤔
What worked for others does not automatically mean it’ll also work for you.
I can’t tell you how many people reach out to me and say, “DIY-ing my books is stressing me TF out.”
Everyone always talks about how easy it is. And that as a small biz owner, you can tooootally do it yourself. I mean, you’re just saving your receipts and plugging numbers into a sheet. Right? Hmmmm..
Take it from K*, who looked for advice from a business group on Facebook. After being told “bookkeeping is SUPER easy”, she signed up for QuickBooks and tried DIY-ing.
She got overwhelmed by the stress and ditched it realllll quick. Her words, not mine: it was a TOTAL fail. (And if you’ve ever tried using QBO and you’re NOT a numbers person, you understand why.)
But in reality, it wasn’t a fail at all. It was a massive WIN for her.
Wanna know why? Cause…
→ She recognized her limits
→ She acknowledged where her skills REALLY lie
→ And she chose to HONOUR her time by outsourcing her bookkeeping to yours truly 👩💻
Now, instead of *trying to track* her money, she gets to invest her energy *and* time into MAKING it. She gets to do what she LOVES and is AMAZING at.
And if you’re thinking… “I’m new to business. Is it too early for me to outsource?”
It’s never too early to give yourself back your time, and set up financial habits that poise you for success. 🙌
