Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-i) is a first-line treatment for those with insomnia. It works when the client makes the commitment. 💤

I won’t write a lengthy re-post for a post that says it all.
I have opened my practice because I like sharing evidence-based therapies to those that are ready to address challenges brought on by life and its ailments. CBT-i is a commitment, but it’s not work (which is explained in the literature…that’s a teaser 😉).
I strongly believe in public health and continue to work there. I also understand it’s a strained system so that’s why I choose to step outside those walls and try to make a bit more of a difference on my own (with you).
Stay tuned for future workshops…and some rebranding… 👀
Ya, it a long one! But this is a little glimpse in to the "why" behind The Trailhead.
When I chose to leave the public health sector it came with mixed feelings. I wanted the time to spend with my physiotherapy clients that I didn’t always have in the public sector because of long, looming waitlists. But it also meant that I had to deal with the financial piece. The balance of life and work made that choice worthwhile for me.
The awareness of the financial piece also factors in to the delivery of services. Trust me, your therapist is cognizant of how much you are paying at each session and how quickly those extended health benefits (if you have them) get chewed up. That is one reason I hope to offer and have others offering group programs out of the Trailhead.
I was disappointed to see Erin Giroux’s (EG Occupational Therapy) insomnia workshops cancelled here in Sundre due to low registrations. Erin, is an Occupational Therapist, who, like me, has worked in both private and public health care. She knows of the importance of sleep and has the credentials to work with clients to improve theirs. She has read the research, done the courses and worked with patients; all of which prove Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is effective, non-pharmaceutical therapy for insomnia.
But like all forms of rehabilitation, you have to do the work. It does take time. It does require homework. It’s up to the client to decide if their sleep, and ultimately their health, is worth it.
One-on-one treatment with registered health professionals is expensive. Some of those services can be found in the public system; some with a short wait-list and some not so much. Some types of treatment just aren’t available in the way the therapist knows will benefit patients the most and that is why you will see therapists, like Erin or myself, offering private services. When they are offered in a group setting, there are many benefits to participants: communication, connection, lower costs.
If you were unable to attend Erin’s workshops but are interested in this treatment, I would still encourage you to touch base with her to investigate other opportunities. EG Occupational Therapy
The most important part is to not give up on yourself or your health.
