Progressive metal solo project of Jake Wright

I must now harness the powers of Grandpas, Minstrels, Hillbillies, and Hedge Knights… because I’m about to get twangy with this album.

I wish I could say that changing various strings doesn’t get old, but alas. 🌊👻🪾

I have written a new album.

It’s broad, diverse, challenging, and full of twists.

I just recently finished writing and recording the drums for it, and electric strings are up next!

I am proud to announce an instrumental version of From the Shallows of the Mantle is coming out on June 27th, with Foundation to Firmament coming out next week on June 20th.

The mix and master, once again beautifully done by , really highlights a lot of the layers and melodies in the album in different ways from the original. The cover art for the album is also once again by , and the single art is adapted from a piece by John Glover.

I’ve wanted to do this with an album since I started putting them out 15 years ago. If you find vocals distracting, don’t like mine, or even just prefer karaoke, then I hope this provides an exciting and fresh listening experience!

I hope you’re all having a wonderful spring!

I’ve been hard at work writing album two… so far I’ve got about an hour’s worth of weird, eclectic, and ambitious songs, and I’m looking forward to refining them over the next while.

Keep your eyes peeled in the coming weeks for an alternate version of From the Shallows of the Mantle! 👀

Panthalassan - From the Shallows of the Mantle Review | Angry Metal Guy 04/25/2025

I’m thrilled to have been reviewed by Angry Metal Guy! It’s a mixed review, but I appreciate the kind words and the constructive feedback alike.

“… the bones are all there: solid songcraft, virtuoso play on every instrument, and a knack for a good hook.”

Cheers!

Review: Panthalassan - From the Shallows of the Mantle - The Progressive Subway 04/04/2025

A nice properly critical review of From the Shallows of the Mantle, by someone who has clearly done their homework, digs the hell out of the songs, and doesn’t like my vocals (😅). I appreciate the kind words, and the criticisms too.

[7/10] “Wright can craft an instrumental interlude with the absolute best of them, and his compositional chops go well beyond his admittedly incredible ability to Play Guitar Fast™”

Thanks to Ian at The Progressive Subway for this well-written review!
