Pumpkin spice is in the air!

Alright, I know YOU know how many grams of sugar are in those lattes (up to 60g in some!!) and yes once in a while they are totally fine to have.... once in a while.
.
I work with many clients on the benefits stabilizing blood sugars and Weightloss. This doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some alternative drinks, without having them become a detriment to your health, or healing progress
.
Here is a clean pumpkin spice latte:
1/2 cup Organic coffee
2 tbsp Pureed pumpkin
1 tbsp Maple syrup or stevia
1/2 tsp Pumpkin pie spice
3/4 cup Unsweetened almond milk
1/2 tsp vanilla Extract
.
Tag a friend who loves a basic latte 🍂

Are you feeling the affects of stress lately? 🥵
.
Burnout is a common thing I see in my practice, especially with moms.
.
Moms take on a lot of jobs, and a lot of the emotional weight. 😮‍💨

Moms attempt to power through everything and “rest when the work is done”
.
One thing I always say to moms is “if you don’t take care of you, you can’t take care of anyone else”
.
Burnout prevention tips:
1. The dishes are okay to wait aka everything has a time and place, don’t try to do it ALL or ask for help

2. Eat your damn protein. We like to think we can run of sand which crusts, but guess what!? We can’t. Protein is filled with B vitamins which help fuel your metabolism and give you energy!!

3. Schedule your time and activities like an appointment and don’t miss it. This will benefit everyone!

4. Set boundaries. It’s okay to not schedule a play date or activity every single day. Say no, and hold some space

5. Get your sleep. I know this can be hard as a mom, but just like your kids, set a good bedtime routine for yourself.

#6 Eat nourishing foods. Focus on getting nutrients into your body to fuel yourself, not restricting because “you had one too many kids snacks”

I don’t know about you, but watching my kids repeat things I do; can sometimes be funny, and sometimes scary. Lol
.
One thing I do know, is they tend to do more of what I do than what I say.
.
So to the mama’s out there, feeling guilty for putting themselves first:

1. Your kids will watch how you put yourselves first, and follow that

2. They will watch how you treat your body, and follow that

3. They will watch how you handle stress, and follow that

4. They will watch how you set boundaries, and follow that

5. They will watch how you speak about yourself and others, and follow that.
.
Now, I’m not an expert in child behaviour, but these are things I have found to be true for myself and my kids.
.
So mama, if you’re struggling to put your health first, to reach out for help because you’re afraid it will take away from your kids - what would be your advice them when they ask you one day “mom what would you do?”
Would you tell them to continue to burn yourself out and put yourself themselves last?
Or would you tell “Taking care of yourself first IS what’s best for your kids”
.
Just some food for thought on September 1st ❤️

Are you stuck in fight or flight? 😵‍💫

One of the biggest reasons for burn out is being stuck in fight or flight; and many of us don’t even know we are stuck in it.
Most of us actually get addicted to the stress cycle, and if we aren’t running around like a chicken with our heads cut off, we feel lazy, leading to feelings of guilty and shame 😣
Sound familiar?

Our bodies, and our minds can actually get addicted to be in this state - they get addicted to the highs, until our bodies can’t handle this anymore and we end up in burn out.😩

Most of the sleep issues and gut issues I help women with are not what they are putting into their bodies, but how their nervous system is activated during these times.

Here are 3 EASY ways to implement breaking the stress cycle:

1. Breath work. Even one big deep breath can help to regulate the nervous system 😮‍💨

Summer Salad🥙

With all the hot weather, I know everyone is craving cool, easy summer meals. 😅

Here is the issue I see with things like summer salads, Buddha bowls…

⚠️ 1. They have a lot of sugar (candied nuts, a lot of high sugar fruit, multiple sources of starches)

⚠️2. The dressings have canola oil and other inflammatory oils in the dressings that are causing more harm than good.

Here are my tips to make your salad as healthy as you intended it to be:

🥬1. Be sure to use lots of greens as your base, and rotate your greens
🫐2. If you are having fruit, try to make sure its low sugar, high fiber fruits
🥜3. If you’re adding nuts, aim for dry roasted nuts, not candied
🥔4. If you’re having starches, aim for one source ex: either rice OR sweet potato - squash OR beets, but not mixing in all of the above
💧5. Create your own salad dressings. Take note the next time you buy a pre made salad - what is in the dressing? Read the ingredient lists. This is important! Even salad dressings in the organic section, labelled organic; doesn’t mean they are HEALTHY😲
Look for ones that are made with olive oil or avocado oil, and not seed oils.
In fact this goes for any label, look at the ingredients, not the calories 😉
🍗6. Add in a healthy protein source, this will help to make sure you hit protein targets.
🥑7. A good source of healthy fats like avocado, chia seeds, h**p heats, salmon etc to help balance your blood sugars as well.
