Most people choose finishes. Designers choose materials with memory — ones that patina, age, and deepen over time. There’s a difference.

A well-designed space feels resolved before anything is added to it.
Everything else is just refinement.
We think about it from the beginning.

Where details define everything. From lighting to joinery, every element is considered because shortcuts aren’t part of our process.

Every project starts here.
On site, mapping what will soon become a custom duplex on one of Hillhurst’s most desirable streets — 9th Ave NW.
From concept to construction.

Not every day looks like a finished project. 🛠️
Most of it looks like this. Materials laid out, ideas evolving, decisions being made in real time.
There’s something about this stage we really love. The back and forth, the small adjustments, the moments where everything starts to come together.
Right now, we’re balancing multiple renovations while building out our new Altadore studio. It’s full, a little messy, constantly moving, but it’s where the work feels the most alive.

Most projects don’t sit because of the market. They sit because they were never positioned to stand out.
That’s where design changes everything.

Great design is the accumulation of small harmonious decisions

What a full-home renovation actually looks like when every detail is designed.
The Rift House is currently taking shape — a warm, minimal renovation centered around natural oak millwork, soft stone surfaces, and layered lighting.
From the entry to the kitchen, powder room, and gym, every space is approached with the same design discipline.

Zellige tile.
Hand-cut, irregular, and intentionally imperfect. Zellige is less about pattern, more about light, depth, and texture.
We use it when a space needs warmth, movement, and a sense of craft you simply can’t achieve with machine-made tile. The variation in glaze and edges creates a surface that changes throughout the day, depending on how the light hits it.
It’s not the right choice for every project but when it is, nothing else quite compares.
Timeless or trend?
But the real question is: does it make sense for the space?
We don’t label things good or bad based on what’s popular. We look at layout, light, scale, and how the space will be used long-term.
Trends aren’t the issue.
Using them without intention is.
The shift away from fully open layouts isn’t about trends.
It’s about how homes are used now.
Work-from-home changed the way people live: privacy, acoustics, and separation matter more than ever.
Good design adapts to that reality.
If you’re planning a renovation or new build, the process should start with design.
