I feel good and ready to conquer the day. As a caregiver we often forget or neglect our own needs. Our quality of life will go down while trying to help others. If that happens we start to feel regret, anger, loss of our own health physically, emotionally and spiritually. We need to find ways to instill those precious moments into our life whether it’s 10 minutes or 30. When you start taking the time you will notice improvements over time and it will become mandatory.

I am not a great gardener by any means but I love being outdoors-listening to the birds, hearing the lawn mower in the distance, the sound of sprinklers and watching the squirrels chase each other while I sit and enjoy the colors of my flowers.

Now imagine someone who feels the same, but can no longer clean up their deck, do the spring tidy-up, plant flowers or fill their bird feeders and bird baths.

Supportive living is more than completing those tasks. It’s about restoring confidence and preserving the routines that bring people peace and joy. It’s about having someone who understands them, respects what matters to them, and helps them stay connected to the parts of life that make them feel like themselves.

It gives me great joy to offer this kind of support-not just through the tasks themselves, but through the time spent sharing stories, learning about different plants, and enjoying the simple moments together. I may support many Calgary elders, but they continue to teach me valuable life lessons that I am grateful to keep learning.

A BIG thank you to our Unison team and community for helping us fill the shelves of the Kerby Centre Market, Calgary's only senior-specific food bank.

Our 2025 Unison Food Drive helped to collect over 2200 lbs of non-perishable food donations. With 35 staff members participating across 7 teams, we met our goal of collecting 2000+ lbs of food.
