I hope people are making the best of the sunshine this week. Looks like winter has taken a little break. But do not be fooled, do not let your guard down. Spring may officially arrive in less than a week, but do not pack away your snow shovel just yet. I am looking forward to spending some time on the deck enjoying the sun and letting the stresses of the day melt away. There is no such things as a sunburn, I call it a pre-tan. Spring-time suntanning is unique, one side of you is frying and the other side freezing, perfect.
Where else can you find Milo but in the sunshine! If it means climbing on the coffee table to catch a few rays, so be it. He had a few rough days after a trip to the vet to get his teeth cleaned. It was recommended that he have 8 teeth removed for various reasons, and that is what was done last Friday. He is doing better now, enjoying soft canned food for a change, until things heal. Turns out many smaller breeds have way too many teeth in their little mouths, and that causes many problems including bone loss. May not sound like it, but Milo got off easy, the dog before him had to have 20 teeth pulled.
Over the years, I have wondered many times how our German shepherd fared after we left Germany for Canada. It was not feasible to bring him along, quarantine measures were quite strict, a minimum of three months. One day his family of eight was there, the next day we were all gone. Lucky for us, our neighbors decided to take him on, after all he had fathered a litter of his own with their dog. But still you wonder how he felt about it.
A few years ago I had a dream about him, he appeared quite happy and content. He let me know that all was okay, he had forgiven us for leaving him so suddenly. Looking forward to meeting up with him again, I am sure he will be up in heaven waiting . Just wondering if I am being presumptuous in thinking that I will be heading there as well.
If you are like me, my heart skips a beat every time I receive correspondence from the CRA. The CRA is not the government, in fact it is an agency tasked with tax collection for the government, with incentives paid for maximum revenues collected. This is of great significance since it infers that, unless you know what claims you are eligible for, the agency will not advise you of things you could have claimed to reduce your tax burden. It is your responsibility to be informed.
As expected, the CRA website is down for maintenance this weekend, not at all convenient to me since I have time on the weekend, not during the week, to access it. Because of this, I cannot access "My Account" on the website to download tax slips that have been posted there already. I may have to wait for "snail-mail" to deliver those slips, not the most reliable process anymore. If you miss reporting a slip on your income tax, even if you did not receive a paper copy of it, you are still responsible for the consequences of omitting the information. If you have not already done so in the past, create an account on the CRA website so that you can access the same information that is available to the CRA.
Today I will be spending some time preparing for tax season, one of my favorite times of the year. I have all the folders ready for family members, transferred last years' information into this years' Turbo Tax edition, and will be adding the appropriate tax slips as they become available. My aim is to determine how much to contribute to an RRSP to reduce tax owing to zero, or generate a generous tax refund, which then will be deposited into a TFSA.
People need to remember that contributing to an RRSP is not a tax saving strategy. It is a tax deferral, since tax is due when you withdraw from it. If you consider retiring at age 65, you could use the money in your RRSP to help you increase the amount of CPP you would receive by postponing when you start collecting CPP by a year or two after age 65. For each year you postpone drawing from the CPP, you will increase the subsequent payments by about 7%. Using your RRSP as the primary source of income for those years would allow you to withdraw a sizable amount from your RRSP account with minimal tax payable.
Words to embrace and live by.
This would be the ideal location to travel to this year, but may have to wait until the following year when travel will once again be easier and less controversial. Just image those secluded beaches, the warm sun and ocean breeze. 500 more sleeps and it could become reality.

Helping others succeed I am choosing a new direction in my life to earn a living after having been laid off from a position in an industry that I had invested 34 years of my life in.

After a year of unsuccessfully searching for employment opportunities, I have come to the realization that it is not my skillset that has hampered my efforts but my age. On a few occasions I was actually told they were looking for somebody younger. Since I cannot change my age, my wife on occasion suggests I should act my age, I have decided to embrace the qualities that maturity brings to the tab

Now is the time to start thinking about planning your vacation this year. Winter just showed its' ugly face again, and in order to keep our sanity, we need to have something to look forward to.
We still have some West jet dollars that need to be used up by October 26 of this year, a balance caused by having to cancel previous plans. Not enough to go tropical, but hopefully enough to call it "away from home". Hopefully travelling will become easier in the months ahead.

Now that Christmas and New Year are over, and the weather decided to go nuts by dropping the temperatures into the mid -30 C , many of us feel a little bit down, if not outright depressed. To deal with that, make plans for a vacation in the not-too-distant future, somewhere tropical and exotic, a nice beach with lots of sunshine and a warm ocean breeze to ease the tension out of your body. Do not worry about current restrictions, travel bans or nonsense like that. Simply enjoy the planning stage and indulge in some day-dreaming. In your mind's eye see the beach and the waves, feel the heat of the sun on your skin, listen to the waves as they gently caress the beach, smell the salt water, see the ripples and the sun reflecting off the water.
Hope you feel a bit better now.

I wish everyone a happy and prosperous new year, hope that 2022 will prove to be a much better year than 2021 ever was. Cheers🍻🍺🍷🍀

Poor little guy does not know where to hide from all the noise, lots of extra treats for him today for being such a good boy. I wonder how I should treat myself, after all I am going through the same stuff. Maybe some bubble tea for the evening, Chatime to the rescue.

We are getting new laminate flooring installed today after a leak from the dishwasher damaged the old one. Currently sitting in the basement listening to the installers ripping out the old subfloor, our dog Milo is not impressed with all the noise. He has been staring at me the whole time, he wants his beauty sleep and I am not making it happen for him by stopping the noise. Attitude again!

Most days I start with drinking a glass of warm water with the juice of one lemon added to it. Hot water would destroy the beneficial enzymes. This not only helps to hydrate your body, but also detoxifies your liver and has an alkalizing effect on the whole body. Follow up with sipping a cup of hot water and you are well on your way to flush out toxins from your body in a very effective way, for just pennies a day.

Most of us have, at one point in time, regretted something we said to someone else. That is why I adopted the concept "Think twice before you speak" a long time ago. It may not always be appreciated in the moment, but sometimes silence is the better option even during a conversation. Words, once spoken, cannot be retracted, and the impact of those words can do damage beyond repair.

Happiness comes in many forms. Live for the moment before it is gone.

12/02/2021

Believe in yourself and your abilities. Go easy on yourself with self-criticism and doubts, you are your worst critic. Instead, focus on the positive things in your life, become a "glass half full instead of a glass half empty" type of person.

Not a care in the world. The sun is out, I want some of that, so here I am. What are you gonna do about it? Attitude is everything!

When exactly did the moment come when one is no longer able to talk to someone at the company one does business with? You get put on hold forever when calling, a live chat is not at all live, first you get a robot, then, if you are lucky you get transferred to an agent who is so busy that after 30 minutes you still do not get an acknowledgement. It is time to demand some proper service from these big corporations, be it Enmax, Rogers, Shaw...... I am so sick and tired of waiting for service when all I am trying to do is to correct an error initiated by the very company I am trying to contact. Shame on these corporations for hiding behind technology, and just pretending to offer customer service. I believe the sun don't shine where I would like to tell them to shove it. Anyone agree?

These are two more prints that I ordered from Andyokay.com , both 20 x28 inches. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the prints present themselves, just love the themes and colors. Just have to order two more frames, Amazon to the rescue.

Today I received the frame I ordered from Amazon to mount this beautiful 20 x 28 inch print. It will bring some much needed color into the house as well as a sense of awe and wonder. I am quite fond of the deep shades of purple and blue, two of my favorite colors. If you like what you see here go to Andy Okay website and order your own, there is some pretty neat stuff as well as some more bizarre themes available.

Stargazing at its best! I love to watch for shooting stars, track the satellites as they continue on their orbit, look for the constellations and just be amazed by the vastness of space. Waterton National Park is one of my favorite places to stargaze, far away from city lights and pollution.

If you are interested in physics and cosmology, consider reading "Parallel Worlds" by Michio Kaku. You do not have to be a rocket scientist to understand the information, the author presents concepts in a style that is informative, entertaining and best of all comprehensible. Just imagine talking about bosons, string theory, leptons, multi-dimensional space, parallel universes and black holes just like Sheldon from the "Big Bang Theory".

This is me standing in the sand at Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii. It took much convincing by my wife to get me to visit Hawaii, not sure why it took me so long to say yes. What's not to like, sun, beach, warm water, gentle ocean breeze and great sunsets. Since then, we have been back five times, and I would love to retire there.
