One of the questions we've been exploring this month is:
What does food need to do tonight?
The answer changes from day to day.
Some evenings it needs to travel.
Some evenings it needs to satisfy.
Some evenings it simply needs to be easy.
When we start there, meal decisions often become much simpler.
A mason jar salad can become supper.
A wrap and fruit can be exactly enough.
A smoothie paired with something satisfying can support a busy evening better than a complicated recipe.
Food doesn't need to be impressive to be supportive.
It simply needs to fit the season you're in.
That's exactly what we'll be exploring together inside Real Food for Busy June Evenings, beginning June 22. https://deft-thinker-4300.kit.com/products/real-food-for-busy-june-evenings-5-day

June has a way of filling itself.
A quick errand turns into three stops.
An evening at home becomes a visit with friends.
A planned supper gets pushed aside because life takes an unexpected turn.
I've noticed that during seasons like this, food often needs to work a little differently.
Sometimes it needs to travel. 🔸Sometimes it needs to satisfy. 🔸Sometimes it simply needs to be easy.
That's the inspiration behind this month's 5-Day Experience: Real Food for Busy June Evenings.
We're exploring simple ways to make food feel supportive, practical, and better suited to real summer life.
Because summer meals don't need to be complicated.
They simply need to work.

One of the questions I've been asking myself lately is:
What does food need to do tonight?
Not every meal needs to do the same thing.
Some evenings food needs to satisfy because it's going to be a long time before everyone is home again.
Some evenings it needs to travel because supper is happening between activities.
And some evenings it simply needs to be easy because the day has already been full enough.
I've found that when I start there, meal decisions become much simpler.
Instead of trying to create the "perfect" meal, I focus on creating a meal that supports the evening ahead.
What does food need to do for you tonight?

We tend to think a meal needs to look a certain way.
A protein
A vegetable
A starch
Everything neatly planned and served at the table.
But life doesn't always unfold that way.
Sometimes supper is a wrap and fruit eaten between activities.
Sometimes it's a smoothie paired with something satisfying.
Sometimes it's a snack plate built from what's already in the fridge.
And sometimes that's exactly what the evening needs.
The more I focus on what food needs to do, the less pressure I feel to make every meal look perfect.
I'm curious... What's something you've eaten recently that wasn't a "traditional" meal but worked surprisingly well?

Some evenings, food needs to do more than simply taste good.
It might need to travel.
It might need to satisfy.
It might need to come together quickly after a long day.
One question I've been asking myself lately is:
What does food need to do tonight?
I've found that when I start there, meal decisions become much easier.
A wrap and fruit might be exactly right.
A smoothie paired with something satisfying might be enough.
A simple snack plate may support the evening better than a complicated recipe ever could.
Instead of asking what supper should look like, try asking what you need it to do.

Some suppers happen around the table.
Others happen between activities, outside on the deck, packed along for the ride, or gathered from what’s already waiting in the fridge.
Lately, I’ve been thinking less about perfect meals and more about food that:
✔ travels
✔ satisfies
✔ feels easy
✔ supports real life
And honestly, some of the simplest meals end up becoming summer favourites.
Tell me — what has supper looked like in your kitchen lately?
☀️ bonus: If grab-and-go meals are feeling helpful this season, our free Mason Jar Meals Guide is still available.

When June evenings feel full, I ask food to do four simple things:
✔ Hold
✔ Travel
✔ Feel Easy
✔ Still Feel Good
That might look like:
• smoothie + something satisfying
• wraps + fruit + dip
• snack plate supper
• cooler-friendly meals
• simple food gathered with ease
Summer evenings often invite flexibility.
And sometimes the easiest meals are exactly the ones that support us best.
