A six-year-old last seen in the water was located as people at Sandbanks Provincial Park joined together to form a chain line to methodically search the beach and water. The child was located more than a kilometre up the beach. https://www.countylive.ca/missing-six-year-old-at-sandbanks-found-following-impressive-community-chain-of-help/

UPDATE: Prince Edward County's mayor and councillors were clear they were not going to further discuss recommendations presented to move or close community fire halls. However, costs and more decisions will need to come back to Shire Hall eventually. https://www.countylive.ca/council-kills-further-work-on-fire-station-moves-and-closures-for-now/

Fire station moves and closures recommended by a consulting group are to be heard by council Thursday. Recommendations are to relocate the Wellington fire station to the County Roads 1 and 2 area, amalgamate Bloomfield and Milford fire stations to a single Cherry Valley location and the closure of the Ameliasburgh and Cressy stations. https://www.countylive.ca/fire-station-moves-and-closures-recommended-by-consultants/

When fire was consuming the home of Wellington family Adnan Mustafa and Suhaila El Husein, 14-year-old Ahmad showed courage and determination, getting his sister and baby brother out of the house. The parents and all five children all just made it out with their lives Sunday night. They didn't even have time to put on their shoes. This is the third time the Syrian family has lost everything. A "Fundly" has been set up for donations to help the family get back on their feet, and back into their popular Papa Ghanoush and Momma Hummus business. https://fundly.com/fire-destroys-newcomers-home?fbclid=IwAR2CUwSc38n8FaezCsH1Dk-KP3tz8uBDMJzVhB-8JDTgtmq7VKvWO3k--FA

With much debate in social media over whether it’s a lynx or a bobcat being spotted over the past few weeks cruising in the Cressy area, photos taken by Paul Wallace are the best look yet at the animal and most agree now that it’s indeed the elusive lynx. https://www.countylive.ca/seldom-seen-lynx-cruising-in-cressy/

A piece of Wellington’s history is slowly being erased as demolition of the former Wellington Arena, also known as the old ‘Duke Dome’ began late Monday afternoon. Though very dark, and a bit creepy, the arena inside appeared as if it was suddenly just abandoned. https://www.countylive.ca/a-final-look-inside-as-former-duke-dome-demolition-begins/

The mayor has declared an emergency due to blizzard conditions - temporarily halting snowplows though staff remain on call and will plow to support emergency calls (fire and ambulance). Environment Canada is calling for "crippling" blizzard conditions to continue throughout the evening and overnight into Saturday. Meanwhile, many residents are without power, and have seen trees, branches and debris fall in gusts up to 120 km/h https://www.countylive.ca/mayor-declares-emergency-due-to-crippling-holiday-blizzard/

Cherry Valley speed bumps that were supposed to be humps will be dumped – as soon as possible – as council has heard loud and clear, many community voices reporting the pilot project to reduce speed in the village should be scrapped. https://www.countylive.ca/council-dumps-cherry-valley-bumps-that-were-supposed-to-be-humps/
