Ever heard your rabbit slam its foot and thought, "Who's making all that noise?" ππ₯
That thump isn't random, it's one of the oldest survival instincts rabbits still use today. And if your buck thumps when you introduce a doe, he's probably communicating more than you think.
Watch until the end to learn what your rabbit is really saying.
Pseudo Pregnancy in Rabbits
Not every nesting doe is expecting kits.
Rabbits can experience pseudopregnancy (false pregnancy) a normal hormonal response where a doe behaves as if she's pregnant despite carrying no kits. She may build a nest, pull fur, become territorial, or even produce milk.
π§πΌ For rabbit keepers in Botswana: During the current cool, dry winter and the upcoming spring breeding season, many breeders begin pairing does more frequently. That's when false pregnancies often become more noticeable, not because the season directly causes them, but because breeding activity increases, giving more opportunities for ovulation without a successful pregnancy.
Knowing the difference between a true pregnancy and a pseudopregnancy can save you time, improve breeding records, and help you avoid unnecessary rebreeding.
π¬ Have you ever had a doe build a perfect nest... only for no kits to arrive?
