Coaching Conservation in the Chobe Enclave Primary Schools⚽️

Coaching Conservation is an environmental education initiative developed by our partners, Wild Entrust, that uses sport and the Learning from Wildlife model to foster empathy for wildlife, natural ecosystems, and the communities that share these landscapes. Through engaging, values-based learning, the programme encourages young people to develop environmental awareness, respect, and a sense of responsibility towards the natural world. Support through our partnership with African Bush Camps Foundation has enabled us to launch the programme, providing the foundation needed to introduce this proven approach to new communities and create meaningful opportunities for young people to engage with conservation and coexistence issues.

This work is particularly important in rural conservation areas, where children often experience the realities of human-wildlife coexistence firsthand. In the Chobe Enclave, communities have strong cultural and economic connections to wildlife, yet there remains an opportunity to strengthen environmental education within primary schools and build positive attitudes towards conservation from an early age.

Through Coaching Conservation, we aim to support the development of a generation that values sustainable human-wildlife coexistence and environmental stewardship. Aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4.7, the programme seeks to equip young people with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to contribute to resilient communities and healthy ecosystems in the future.

Our Approach To Impact

At Wild-Link, we believe that meaningful, lasting human–wildlife coexistence cannot be achieved through isolated projects or short-term interventions. True impact demands a systems-based approach that strengthens the relationships, capacities, and institutions shaping how people and wildlife share landscapes.

Our work therefore focuses on building strong foundations through effective governance, trusted partnerships, and continuous learning. We support collaborative processes that empower rural communities, enhance local capacity, and promote informed, inclusive decision-making. By investing in people and systems, we create the conditions for resilient livelihoods, reduced human–wildlife conflict, and healthier ecosystems.

We are committed to conservation and development that is community-centred, evidence-informed, and deeply rooted in local knowledge. This approach enables us to contribute to landscapes in Botswana where both people and wildlife can thrive for generations to come.

We welcome collaboration with like-minded partners, donors, and practitioners who share our vision for sustainable human–wildlife coexistence.

At Wild-Link, our people are the heart and foundation of our organisation.👥️

Our team is composed of dedicated professionals from across Botswana, many of whom live and work directly in the landscapes where our conservation programmes operate. This deep local knowledge and lived experience bring invaluable insight, ensuring that our approaches are practical, contextually relevant, and genuinely community-centred.

We prioritise recruiting from the very communities we serve, with community members actively involved in the selection process. Many of our team members have collaborated for nearly a decade, having transitioned with us when Wild-Link was established. Their long-standing relationships, institutional knowledge, and unwavering commitment form a solid foundation for our work.

We are proud to be a locally rooted organisation, united by shared purpose and driven by a genuine commitment to sustainable human–wildlife coexistence alongside the rural communities of Botswana.

Values That Guide Our Work📜

As part of our recent team training in Victoria Falls, the whole Wild-Link team participated in a collaborative values exercise to define the principles that will shape our organisational culture, leadership, and partnerships moving forward.

Rather than adopting a top-down approach, we facilitated open dialogue and collective reflection among our team members. This process led to the identification of six core values that now serve as the foundation for how we operate:

Integrity, Collaboration, Innovation, Empowerment, Empathy, and Excellence.

These values are more than guiding statements; they represent the shared commitments of our team and provide a clear ethical and operational compass for our work. They inform every aspect of our approach: from building meaningful partnerships with stakeholders, to advancing sustainable human–wildlife coexistence and delivering impactful conservation outcomes.

By grounding our growth in these collectively defined principles, Wild-Link strengthens internal cohesion, accountability, and the quality of our engagement with our partners.

Building a Shared Vision for the Future

Recently, our team convened in Victoria Falls for our inaugural annual team training. The gathering brought together team members from across our initiatives in Botswana, and through focused and interactive workshops we introduced new organisational frameworks.

Key outcomes included the review of company policies and the launch of an updated personnel framework and leadership model. All have all been designed to enhance accountability, support, and cross-regional collaboration, ensuring every team member is equipped to contribute effectively to our evolving organisational structure.

A special thank you to Shearwater Village in Victoria Falls for their warm hospitality and accommodation, to Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust for hosting an insightful REHerd site visit, and to all the Wild-Link team members.

Rethinking the Future of Coexistence

Across many rural and ecologically important landscapes, the relationship between people and wildlife is both complex and deeply interconnected.
The challenge is not whether coexistence is possible, but how it can be shaped in ways that are practical, fair, and sustainable for all.

At its core, our work is about strengthening the relationship between people and nature and creating systems where communities and all stakesholders are active participants in shaping a shared and sustainable future.

Wonderful training with REHerd Africa and the Communities Living Among Wildlife Sustainably Conservancy team!

We are proud to partner with REHerd Africa, whose One Health framework supports farmers in breaking the cycle of low-investment, low-return livestock ownership.

By empowering farmers as the primary agents of positive change, this model strengthens livelihoods while promoting sustainable land stewardship.

Through the integration of traditional practices with modern, scientifically informed techniques, REHerd enables the restoration of rangelands and the production of investable, market-ready livestock products.

This partnership reflects our commitment to practical, community-centred solutions that benefit both people and the landscapes they depend on.
