Gangteng Monastery, also known as Gangtey Gonpa, is located in the Wangduephodrang district, around two-hour drive from Wangdue town. Trashichhodzong, known as the Fortress of the Glorious Religion, is located close to Thimphu town on the bank of Wang Chhu River. The Dzong was constructed in 1641 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel which was later renovated by the late third King of Bhutan, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. The Dzong was renovated in a traditional manner, without the use of nails or written plans. Presently, the fortress houses the Office of the King of Bhutan. Additionally, its northern section is dedicated to hosting the Chief Abbot and the clergy during the summer months.
