If Green Turtle can do it, so can Treasured Cay! Let’s start rebuilding the marina! 😊
It's official - England's stunning Actress, Singer, and Songwriter, Piera Van de Wiel, will be performing her Abaco Relief Song "Come Back Home" at the "Hope for Abaco" benefit concert. Piera, who has been coming to Abaco since she was seven months old, has asked that the entire community join her in the final verse for a truly powerful ending.

The Hope for Abaco benefit concert featuring the Barefoot Man and Friends of Abaco will be held in Stuart Florida on December 14, 2019.

Details of the event are still be finalized, however if you would like to support efforts to rebuild Abaco and to receive ticket and other information before the general public join the Barefoot Man Fan Club.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/1845458955752503/
I'm asking that you join the Barefoot Man Fan Club group. Simply by joining, you will be supporting the efforts of the Barefoot Man to raise money for the people of Abaco.
The Barefoot Man and other musicians will be performing in Stuart Florida Dec 14, 2019 and all of the proceeds will go to help rebuild Abaco, Bahamas.
We are using social media to promote the benefit so that we can reach people who will donate and tell them about the benefit concert or make a donation if they can not attend.
The Barefoot Man Fan Club page now has more than 1500 members, but we need 15,000 to have a solid base to sell-out the benefit and raise the seven-figure donation that we hope.
Once you have joined the group, you will be helping because each time you interact in any way, by liking, commenting, sharing, or posting, Facebook promotes the benefit by showing the post to some of your friends.
It doesn't matter whether you like hip hop, rap, or pop music. It doesn't matter if you have never heard of the Barefoot Man. What matters if what's in your heart. Are you willing to help the people of Abaco if to do so you only need to click the join button?
So many people of Abaco are still missing. We all know someone who did not make it. Almost everyone in central Abaco had their lives turned inside out on September 1... lets help them recover.
Let's create Hope for Abaco.

Today we are proud to announce the launch of a new program that you can find on our website at www.treasurecaycommunity.com/people-to-people. This program comes from the need to connect people who have been displaced in The Bahamas with people in the United States or elsewhere who may have the resources to help a person or a family for a period of time.
We know in times of need like these we sometimes have to rely on the willingness and generosity of strangers to help provide for the needs of those they do not know but who need life-sustaining help. These situations can be difficult for everyone involved.
People-to-People is an effort that has been organized to help those who can provide help link up with those who need help. The assistance can range from housing accommodations to providing basic everyday essentials to helping with getting people on their feet again who lost everything in the hurricane.
Think of it as a match dot com, where those who are providing help and those who are needing help can interview each other to make sure they’re the right fit for one another. We will simply provide the platform for you to list that you are providing assistance or that you are needing assistance, and then we will match you up and provide your contact information to each other.
It’s that simple. If you can help or if you need help, please fill out the form at www.treasurecaycommunity.com/people-to-people to begin the process.
And if you have any questions, feel free to email us at [email protected].
It tears our hearts out to see the damage and imagine the difficulty now. We have been flying relief into Grand Bahama out of Ft. Lauderdale. What does Treasure need most now? Any word on Avis Miller?

The Government of The Bahamas has started the gradual re-opening of some Family Islands - including now Abaco.

Effective today, regular commercial activity can resume.

However physical distancing, mask wearing in public and frequent hand washing are still required. Also, the 24 hour curfew and weekend lock downs remain in place.

The Government is also starting to re-open domestic borders.

In the initial phase, Abaco residents who are stuck in Grand Bahama or New Providence can register to be permitted to return.

Also, residents of Abaco can now travel to New Providence or Grand Bahama without registering or going through the process, but if they want to return to Abaco, they will need to register and apply for a COVID-19 Authorization Travel Card

Registration opens on Wednesday, May 20.

May 5, 2020

Dear Property Owner:

Urgent Notice to Clean-up Your Property

We noticed that efforts to restore power to all of Treasure Cay didn't appear to be on track to meet Bahamas Power and Light's promised 11 week deadline.
We reached out to BPL CEO Whitney Heastie and received this reply:

"We've been challenged with returning crews from Carilec.

BPL is the process of engaging additional linesman and in short order (within a couple of weeks) you will see a renewed effort towards completing the work as quickly as we can.

Thanks for contacting me and please know that we are working to return lives to normalcy as quickly as possible."

We will continue to follow up on this and will keep you posted as information becomes available.

We have officially begun the demolition and clean-up of the Treasure Cay Marina!
In order to allow the contractor Triple A Marine Transport to do their work safely and prevent any additional damage being done to the seawalls, no boats or barges will be allowed entry into the Treasure Cay Marina until further notice.
In the meantime, we recommend that relief vessels and pleasure craft utilize the harbor channel moorings for overnight stays. Please note that there is a mooring fee for pleasure craft that is payable at the Treasure Cay Fuel Station. The fuel station is open daily from 8am – 4pm.
Vessels are permitted to offload relief items at the fuel station.
Please note that relief barges will only be permitted with prior TCL permission. Barge operators are asked to communicate with Treasure Cay Security Manager Eric Bethel at 1-242-823-2743 in advance to arrange access.
We appreciate your support and cooperation as we work bit by bit to deal with the devastating damage caused by Hurricane Dorian. We trust that together we will all work to bring back our beloved Treasure Cay Community.

When you think of good days at Treasure Cay there are probably two things that come to mind – one, the absolutely stunning beach and two, an ooey-gooey made-with-love cinnamon bun from Café La Florence!
The beach is just as beautiful as ever and we are happy to report that Café La Florence is open again in the same location.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian, the owners of the Treasure Cay Beach, Marina & Golf Resort focused efforts and resources on repairing the extensive damage done to one of the tenant buildings. Getting small businesses like Café La Florence back up and running is essential to the rebuilding of our beloved community.

The Official Nassau Guardian Ltd. (1844)

This is some great and very welcome news. The restoration of essential services is critical to all of our ability to bring back our beloved community.

January 9, 2020

Dear Treasure Cay Home and Property Owners,

It has been a very daunting and incredibly complex situation since Hurricane Dorian struck Treasure Cay on September 1, 2019. The slow progress of the post-storm recovery has been frustrating, but nonetheless, progress is being made. We expect the speed of recovery to accelerate as 2020 progresses.
Since the storm, we have had a hard-working crew of 25 to 30 staff employed at the Resort in different capacities. We have spent several hundred thousand dollars on emergency relief related services, supplies/items, repairs, critical equipment, cleanup, etc.
On September 22, just three weeks after hurricane struck, Treasure Cay Ltd (TCL) reopened our Rubis fuel station providing gas and diesel for vehicles and boats seven days a week excluding a few holidays.
We have also donated fuel to humanitarian organizations and security efforts.
Although much improved since the first days after the storm, security is essential for homeowners to return. We will continue to monitor the situation closely. Shortly after the storm, we brought in additional security manpower. Later we added a second Security Supervisor and a second patrol for the 2pm to 10pm shift. We are working in conjunction with the homeowner association presidents on this very important issue.
The process of rebuilding the Treasure Cay Marina has begun. At our insistence and through communication with their owners, the vast majority of the boats that were docked at the Marina during the hurricane have been removed. We are currently obtaining quotes to clean up the Marina from fallen docks and other storm-related debris. We envision the rebuilding of the Marina in stages.
Our current priority project for TCL is to continue repairs of the shopping center block adjacent to the central park so tenants can return to service the Treasure Cay community. The convenience store and Café La Florence Bakery have agreed to return in early 2020. The Royal Bahamas Police Force has agreed to return as well. We are in discussions with banks for an ATM. We are hopeful that the home/hardware store and others will also reopen within the next few months. Cash’s Golf Carts has expressed their
intention to return to their own detached building adjacent to the retail center and is expected to reopen soon.
In order to restore everything else, the housing shortage for workers must be resolved. Therefore, another priority for TCL is to fully repair our two block, 24-unit Madeira Park staff apartments, so we can reestablish proper housing for our employees and working crews. This project has commenced and we expect to finish the repairs this spring.
A general cleanup continues in many areas of the Resort with our heavy equipment, maintenance and landscaping crews to protect against any further damage, prevent accidents and improve appearance.
We have several more vehicles on the way to replace destroyed ones to assist with these efforts. We have identified several of our TCL buildings which will need to be demolished safely and removed properly.
We are working on restoring the irrigation pond pumps for watering and doing basic maintenance of the
golf course.
We have been asked about the restoration of electricity, water & sewerage. It is important to understand that Treasure Cay Ltd. does not own or operate any of these utilities. Bahamas Power & Light (BPL) owns and operates the power lines and poles throughout Treasure Cay and the Water & Sewerage Corporation (W&S) owns and operates the water and sewerage systems. Those companies
alone are responsible for getting these essential services up and running.
We understand the confusion. In 1999, when Hurricane Floyd crippled these services, TCL did operate power, water & sewerage and we restored service. However, in 2000 our electricity and around 2004, our water and sewerage franchise agreements ended. These essential services were then taken over by those two companies.
At this point, despite our attempts to obtain more information from both of those companies, it is still unclear when and to what extent electricity, water & sewerage will be restored.
Electricity, water & sewerage all are absolutely vital services for the recovery of Treasure Cay. These three infrastructure essentials require the highest attention. Urgent communication is needed by the relevant companies to the Treasure Cay community with its approximately 1,100 homeowners. We cannot emphasize enough how crucial the return of these services are for the economic recovery of
Treasure Cay and North Abaco.
Treasure Cay Ltd.’s already challenging situation after Hurricane Dorian was made even more complicated when Stephen Kappeler, our General Manager, who led a major company turnaround over the last few years, was denied his work permit renewal in October.
Adding to our challenges in moving recovery efforts along, our father and the former Chairman of Treasure Cay Ltd., Ludwig Meister, passed away on October 8th.
Finally, insurance recovery is essential to our decisions regarding the future of the Treasure Cay Beach, Marina & Golf Resort. We agree with our risk managers that the Resort is a total loss and recovery of the full insured amount is paramount prior to undertaking any further demolition or reconstruction operations. We reasonably estimate that it could take to the 2nd quarter of 2020 for any real progress or conclusion regarding this matter.
We believe in the recovery of Abaco and we are seeing the remarkable strength of Abaconians. Together with their determination, the resources of generous second homeowners, the very helpful humanitarian organizations and NGO’s on the ground, and with the help of many individual volunteers, we are confident that Abaco and Treasure Cay’s recovery will take shape and that the island chain and Resort will thrive again in the future.

- Robert & Stefan Meister
