To support our students during this high-stakes period, here are a few ways the community can help maintain "Exam Silence" in school zones:

📢 How to Support a Quiet Zone
Commuters: Avoid using horns or loud music when driving near school campuses.

Local Businesses: If your business is adjacent to a school, consider delaying loud maintenance, construction, or deliveries until after school hours. Bars should not be playing loud music during school hours!

Pedestrians: Keep conversations at a low volume and avoid gathering in large groups near open windows where exams may be in progress.

Political & Social Groups: Be mindful of mobile sound systems or parades. Keeping the volume down is a simple way to show respect for the next generation's future.

📝 Why it Matters
Students have navigated a particularly hectic season, and distractions—whether from traffic, celebrations, or local noise—can cause:

Increased Anxiety: High-pressure environments make students more sensitive to sudden sounds.

Loss of Focus: A few seconds of distraction can break a student’s "flow" during complex problem-solving.

Inequity: Some classrooms are naturally louder than others based on their proximity to the road; keeping the zone quiet ensures every student has a fair shot.

Let’s give our students the peace and quiet they deserve to finish strong.

The Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation Announces Leadership Transition Plan

The Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation wishes to officially advise the public, educational stakeholders, alumni, sponsors, supporters, and the wider Bahamian community that Foundation President & Chief Executive Officer, Ricardo P. Deveaux, has formally announced that the organization is entering a structured period of leadership transition.

President Deveaux has communicated his intention to officially step down from the role of President & CEO at the conclusion of the 2027 Awards Program Year.

This announcement marks a significant moment in the history of the organization and reflects the Foundation’s continued commitment to responsible leadership, strategic succession planning, and long-term organizational sustainability.

According to President Deveaux, the transition period is intended to provide the Foundation with an opportunity to thoughtfully identify and prepare its next leader while strengthening the organization’s infrastructure and positioning it for continued national growth and impact.

“For every organization to remain strong and effective, there must be a deliberate investment in future leadership,” stated Deveaux. “After nearly three decades of service connected to this program, I believe this is the appropriate time to begin preparing the next generation of leadership that will continue to advance the vision, mission, and legacy of this institution. My hope is that this transition period will allow the Foundation to move confidently into its next chapter while continuing to positively impact the lives of students throughout The Bahamas.”

The Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Awards Program was conceptualized in 1996 while Ricardo Deveaux was serving as President of the Nassau, Bahamas Pan-Hellenic Council. The idea was inspired by his experience as a finalist in the Florida College Student of the Year Awards Program, where he witnessed firsthand the importance of recognizing and celebrating student achievement.

Motivated by that experience, Deveaux introduced the concept of a national student recognition program to the Nassau, Bahamas Pan-Hellenic Council, which embraced the vision and assisted in launching what would eventually become one of the nation’s most respected educational recognition initiatives.

Since its inception, the Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Awards Program has recognized academic excellence, leadership, citizenship, and community involvement among thousands of young Bahamians.

Deveaux initially served as Awards Committee Chairman and played a central role in the program’s growth and development over the years. In 2024, following the formal establishment of the Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation, he was elected as the organization’s inaugural President & CEO.

Under his leadership, the Foundation has recognized more than 3,300 outstanding students across The Bahamas and has awarded in excess of $3.7 million in scholarships, educational assistance, awards, and prizes.

The Foundation acknowledges the tremendous contribution made by President Deveaux over the past twenty-nine years and recognizes his unwavering dedication to youth empowerment, educational advancement, and national development.

The Co-Patrons, Board of Directors and executive leadership of the Foundation remain fully committed to ensuring a smooth and effective transition process while continuing the organization’s mission of empowering and celebrating the nation’s future leaders.
Additional information regarding succession planning initiatives and future organizational developments will be communicated in due course.
