এই ছবিটি আমাদের জীবনে একজন প্রকৃত অভিভাবকের গুরুত্ব কতটা গভীর, সেটাই চোখে আঙুল দিয়ে দেখিয়ে দেয়।

যখন সে তার খামারি মালিকের কাছে ছিল, তখন তার চেহারায় ছিল প্রাণচাঞ্চল্য আর সৌন্দর্যের ছাপ। নিয়মিত গোসল, সুষম খাবার, যত্ন আর ভালোবাসায় সে ছিল একেবারে ধবধবে, নাদুসনুদুস ও আকর্ষণীয়। এমনকি তার বিশেষ স্টাইলের চুলও ছিল সবার আলোচনার বিষয়। ডোনাল্ড ট্রাম্পের মতো সেই লুক তাকে বিশ্বজুড়ে পরিচিতি এনে দিয়েছিল।

কিন্তু পরে তাকে সরকার কিনে নিয়ে চিড়িয়াখানায় স্থানান্তর করে। ধীরে ধীরে কমতে থাকে তার যত্ন। বরাদ্দ থাকলেও সেই সুবিধার কতটা তার কাছে পৌঁছায়, সেটি প্রশ্নসাপেক্ষ। অথচ প্রতিদিন তাকে দেখতে শত শত মানুষ চিড়িয়াখানায় ভিড় করে।

মাত্র কয়েক দিনের ব্যবধানে তার পরিবর্তন চোখে পড়ার মতো। সেই পরিচিত চুল, উজ্জ্বল সোনালি পশম আর প্রাণবন্ত দৃষ্টি যেন হারিয়ে গেছে। নিয়মিত পরিচর্যার অভাবে তার চেহারায় এখন ক্লান্তি ও অবহেলার ছাপ স্পষ্ট।

ভাবুন তো, যদি সে এখনও তার আগের মালিকের কাছেই থাকত, তাহলে হয়তো একই রকম যত্ন, ভালোবাসা ও সেবা পেত। তার সেই পরিচিত সৌন্দর্যও হয়তো অটুট থাকত।

পশু হোক বা মানুষ—একজন দায়িত্বশীল অভিভাবক বা অভিভাবকের মতো যত্নশীল মানুষের গুরুত্ব কতটা, এই দৃশ্য তারই একটি জীবন্ত উদাহরণ।

তাই সংশ্লিষ্ট কর্তৃপক্ষের প্রতি অনুরোধ, তার যথাযথ পরিচর্যা নিশ্চিত করুন। প্রয়োজন হলে তাকে এমন পরিবেশে রাখুন, যেখানে সে পর্যাপ্ত যত্ন ও সঙ্গ পাবে। কারণ অবহেলা চলতে থাকলে তার অবস্থার আরও অবনতি হওয়ার আশঙ্কা রয়েছে।

ঢাকাসহ দেশের বিভিন্ন অঞ্চলে চলমান তাপপ্রবাহে জনজীবন বিপর্যস্ত। প্রচণ্ড গরম থেকে কিছুটা স্বস্তি পেতে পানিতে নেমেছে কিশোরেরা। তাদের সঙ্গে পানিতে খেলায় মেতেছে দুটি কুকুরও। ঢাকার ক্রিসেন্ট লেকে।

Can we come together for a peaceful stand—for our zoo and its animals? We’re not demanding anything extraordinary. We’re simply asking for what these helpless creatures should already have: proper nourishment, a clean living space, and an environment that supports their natural well-being. Not confinement.

If other nations can uphold international standards for animal care with success, why can’t we? And if ensuring even the basics is not possible, then these animals deserve the freedom of the wild instead of a life of suffering.

A lioness named “Deiji” stepped out of her enclosure at Mirpur Zoo, but nothing about her appearance reflects the strength or majesty of a jungle queen. She looks frail, ill, and defeated — as if she has endured long periods of hardship.

If you cannot properly care for wildlife, ensure proper nutrition, or provide a life with basic dignity, then these animals deserve to live freely in the wild. Don’t keep them alive only to suffer. Deiji looks more like a victim of neglect than a creature under protection.
