The Blaze

Every winter, Jahangirnagar University would turn into a living dream —
its lakes wrapped in mist, the air filled with the sound of wings.

Hundreds of migratory birds from faraway lands — Siberia, Tibet, Mongolia —
found rest here, where water met silence and sky.

But for the last two years, they haven’t come.
We’ve noticed it as students — walking by the lakes,
feeling that quiet ache where life once fluttered.
The reason isn’t a mystery anymore.

New ten-storey buildings now rise where the horizon once opened.
Bright lights, constant noise, and human movement have changed the rhythm of this land. The birds have simply stopped feeling safe.

Today is World Migratory Bird Day —
a reminder that our campus is part of a much larger map,
a part of a global flight path that connects lives, seasons, and continents.

At Studio Mayaa, we believe caring for art also means caring for the nature that inspires it.

The silence of the lakes tells us something urgent:
we must protect the places that once offered peace —
to wings, to water, and to ourselves.

Let’s clean, restore, and quieten the spaces that once echoed with life.
Let’s make Jahangirnagar a home again —
for the birds, and for everything that still believes in coming back.
