The Beyond (1981) – Italian director Lucio Fulci’s film is an experience in surreal, logic-defying terror. A woman inherits a Louisiana hotel, only to discover it sits atop one of the seven gates of Hell. From there, reality crumbles. People die in impossibly grotesque ways. The dead refuse to stay dead. Time and space disintegrate.

This movie is Fulci at his best, though it's not for everyone. The body-horror and gore can be too much for some viewers. Acid melts faces in excruciating slow motion. Tarantulas devour a man’s face in a sequence so absurd it becomes hypnotic. Eyes are gouged, heads explode, and the rules of cause and effect cease to exist.

Another issue some people have with the movie is its purposefully disorienting plot that creates an initial sense of unsettling confusion. But the more times you watch it, the better the film gets. The final shot is pure existential horror... inescapable, hopeless dread. This is my favorite Lucio Fulci film after Zombie.

Which is your favorite Lucio Fulci film?

The opening to the 2003 Texas Chainsaw Massacre is PERFECTION. This shot was incredible and really set the tone for the rest of the movie.

🎥 Van Helsing 2 (2025) – A Ferocious Descent Into Ancient Darkness And Redemption

The night stirs with new terror. Old shadows twist back to life. And Abraham Van Helsing returns to face a threat older, darker, and far more relentless than Dracula himself. Hugh Jackman steps back into the role with the force of a warrior forged in blood and myth, carrying the weight of every monster he has ever slain.

In Van Helsing 2, a secret sect awakens an ancient entity buried since the dawn of mankind. Its resurrection would unleash an apocalypse beyond imagination. Drawn into the heart of this rising nightmare, Van Helsing hunts for answers across crumbling ruins, cursed forests, and forgotten crypts where the echoes of the past still scream. Every step pulls him deeper into a conspiracy crafted long before his name became legend.

He is not alone in this war. Jessica Chastain commands the screen as a fierce warrior bound by duty and loss. Her strength sharpens every moment, her resolve cutting through the darkness like fire. Idris Elba brings intensity and haunting depth as a former enemy seeking redemption, torn between the lingering pull of darkness and the chance to reclaim his soul.

Together, they march into realms where nightmares breathe. Gothic fortresses stretch into stormy skies. Mythic battlefields crackle with ancient magic. Horrors long forgotten rise again, testing the limits of humanity and courage.

At its heart, the film explores the cost of immortality, the weight of redemption, and the fragile balance between light and shadow. It grips you with action, chills you with horror, and moves you with the humanity hidden beneath the legend.
