π Edexcel IAL IT A2 Revision Alert! π
Struggling with Data Redundancy for Unit 3? Let's break down this crucial topic. Itβs all about storing the same data in multiple locations, and it's a classic double-edged sword you need to understand for your exam.
Remember to differentiate between intentional redundancy used for backups and reliability, and unintentional redundancy which compromises data integrity. The goal of a well-designed relational database is to reduce uncontrolled redundancy through Normalization (to 3NF).

Ready for a little tech magic? β¨ After looking at symmetric encryption, let's level up with Asymmetric Encryptionβthe clever system that keeps your most sensitive information safe online!
Think of it like a personal mailbox with two different types of keys:
π¬ A Public Key: This is like the mail slot on your mailbox. You can share its location with anyone in the world! They use this slot to drop off a secret, locked message just for you.
π A Secret Key (or Private Key): This is the physical key that opens the mailbox door. Only YOU have this key, and you must keep it safe. No one else can open the mailbox to read the messages inside.
As the image shows:
1οΈβ£ The sender uses your widely available Public Key to lock (encrypt) their message.
2οΈβ£ Once locked, the message is scrambled into unreadable "Cipher Text."
3οΈβ£ The only thing in the world that can unlock (decrypt) it is your matching Secret Key.
This two-key system is incredibly secure because you never have to share your secret unlocking key! It's the foundational technology behind the little padlock π you see in your browser (SSL/TLS), secure emails, and digital signatures.
