The day of Saraswati Puja immersion feels different somehow almost colorless. Every image around turns black and white.
Little children stand silently, staring at the clay idol, unable to understand why they must bid farewell to the goddess they love. Tears gather in some eyes, others bite their lips tight this is their first lesson in separation.
Mothers’ eyes grow moist in quiet surrender. Amid countless household chores, those who dressed the goddess like a daughter now weep softly heavy yet restrained, like a soundless cry.
And the little girls… their sadness is the most silent of all. Flowers still rest in their tied hair, books remain in their hands everything is there, except the smile. They know the joy ends today; from tomorrow, it’s back to studies, back to rules.
The beat of the dhak slowly fades into the distance. The idol dissolves into the water, leaving behind a few black-and-white moments etched not in the eyes, but deep in the heart, for a long time.

Amid Saraswati Puja, the city moves on in its familiar rhythm someone juggling office calls while holding a plate of prasad, someone else slipping through the crowd in search of work. In between that busyness, children’s mischief scatters laughter like soft winter sunlight scribbling on the ground, playing hide-and-seek near the idol’s feet, an innocent clamor filling the air. And those whose tireless labor gives the festival its shape carry fatigue on their faces, yet a quiet contentment rests in their eyes, as if the work itself were their form of worship.
As the day draws to a close, the puja ends gently, without the thunder of drums restrained, humane, and profound, much like a Satyajit Ray film. In black-and-white frames, life reveals itself through light and shadow: deep emotions spoken in few words, stories living within silences where the festival exists not merely in color, but etched into the lines of time itself.
