👏 Thank you to the many community groups and local businesses involved in helping us to make the main event of this year's Wetlands Weekender festival happen! ‘Wonders of Our Wetlands’ at Coodanup Foreshore was attended by 714 people (and quite a few dogs), a stunning way to celebrate our wetlands and World Migratory Bird Day!

Some of the highlights of the day included cultural dances with the Bindjareb Middars, flapping bird puppet making activity with Sciteam, kids nature photography adventure with Sharon Meredith Photography, dolphin rescue demonstration with Estuary Guardians Mandurah, and other hands on learning activities with Marie Mitchell, The Wetlands Centre Cockburn, Peel Bright Minds, WA Seabird Rescue, Greening Australia, and The Nature Conservancy.

With the help of these many groups this event has helped to raise awareness of the unique values of our wetlands (Ramsar Site 482), the threats they face and some of the ways we can all contribute to healing our waterways.

Thanks also to Street Hassle Events who worked with us to coordinate the event's food trucks and market stallholders, and to Bleeding Ear Music & Special Events for curating a great morning of live music, and thanks to the stallholders and musicians who joined us!

Wetlands Weekender was delivered by the PHCC through funding from the Australian Government's National Landcare Program.
In addition to our fabulous headline acts, we’re bringing the hugely popular ⚓️ The Albany Shantymen to this year’s Fusion Food and Culture Festival 2021 – along with a vibrant mix of other acts representing a diverse range of nationalities and cultures.

The PHCC recognise, acknowledge and respect Noongar People as the Traditional Custodians of lands within the south-west of Western Australia. For over 45,000 years Noongar Clan Groups of the Bindjareb, Whadjuk and Wiilman language groups have lived here, tended the land and been sustained by its natural resources. Their spiritual, cultural and intellectual connections to the land are strong and provide opportunities to enhance management of the Region’s natural resources.

PHCC are grateful for the ongoing contributions of our Noongar community to looking after Country, and for their sharing of knowledge and wisdom as we work together to Heal Country in our patch. We are committed to continuing to build on our relationships with respect while developing opportunities for increased and improved consultation, engagement, procurement and participation in all aspects of NRM.

We are especially proud to be currently work with local groups to provide training and employment opportunities through initiatives like the Aboriginal Ranger Program and Green Jobs.

This there are many opportunities to explore and learn more about Noongar history and culture. Just a few examples are:

- Book a tour with a local Noongar provider such as Mandjoogoordap Dreaming or Bindjareb Park.
- Explore the Pinjarra massacre site and memorial: http://pinjarramassacresite.com/

A huge thank you to our magnificent Earth Carer volunteers who yesterday joined dozens of EMRC people at our annual 🌳🌳 Tree Planting Day 🌳🌳 at the Red Hill Waste Management Facility!

Over 4,000 new plants will make a significant contribution to both the environment and the EMRC's ongoing site revegetation program.

Thank you also to Theo Kearing for his Welcome To Country and the Bindjareb Middars dance troupe for their cultural performance in recognition of National Reconciliation Week.

Yesterday we were honoured to have a performance by the Bindjareb Middars Dance Group in celebration of NAIDOC Week.

The traditional dances were a beautiful display of the rich history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Thank you to Theo and all group members for sharing your music, stories, culture and dance.

Today, the Bindjareb Middars mob visited the Aubin Grove students and staff to kick off our NAIDOC week celebrations commencing next week.

Many thanks to Theo, Ryan, Joseph, Montana and the other group members for their generosity of time in sharing their music, culture, stories and dance.

A special thank you to Ryan for spending some extra time with one of our Year 5 students, Charlie, to teach him about playing the didgeridoo. Charlie has a keen passion for the didgeridoo and has been teaching himself how to play it for the past 2 years.

Today, Charlie was given permission to play didgeridoo for our school community from now on. We look forward to hearing more tunes from you, Charlie.

Thank you Bindjareb Middars 💛❤️🖤
