- Can all dogs swim like a duck 🦆 ? Short answer is nope 👎🏻
- Even dogs who seem confident, and run into the water as they are chasing after a toy or another dog, can end up in a lot of trouble quickly some puppies or dogs new to water will just chase a toy or dog straight into the water without realising that the ground surface has changed to water , that gets deeper or has a ledge/ drop off into deeper water which is common at the waroona dam and weir
- 😱 When this happens the dog /puppy can panic when they realise the ground has disappeared and the panicking can quickly lead to drowning.
- 🏊 Swimming is a wonderful exercise for dogs, but we need to be aware not all breeds are natural swimmers
- Some breeds seem to know how to swim from the moment they see a water such as a Labrador , whereas some are to lazy or don’t see the point of swimming.
- Some breeds have a weight distribution issues such as bulldog b, that doesn’t make it possible for them to swim well without a life vest
- Short-legged and long-bodied breeds like dashound’s can also struggle in the water, simply cause there short legs don’t make good rudders
- 🐩 No matter what breed you have, you always want that first experience to be fun, Which means never throwing your dog into the water and letting him figure things out on his own so to speak
- Throwing a puppy or young dog in the water is not only a horrible idea that can lead to major health issues associated with inhaling water , ear issues and drowning to mention just a few - but it commonly in fact, damage the dog’s courage and can turn them off swimming or even going near water for life.
- 🛥️ Life jackets are always recommended and a must if your dog is travelling on a boat regardless of how good there swimming ability is , life jackets are always a great way to encourage a puppy or dog to try the water with confidence.
- 🏖️ Always be aware at the beach to watch waves and tides that can easily cause problems for even the best of dog swimmers
- 💦 Dont forget fresh water for your dog to drink - always discourage your dog from drinking the sea water which is a common issue with beach trips the excess salt in the ocean water draws water from the blood into the intestines, which starts diarrhoea & vomiting, which leads quickly to dehydration. The Salt in the water also quickly alters the fluid /electrolyte balance in your dog body , dogs drinking sea water can reach toxic levels of sodium in their systems which can lead to death.

PRESTON BEACH 🏖️
Please be extra cautious we have seen a large increase in 🐡 blowfish poisonings coming into the clinic this last week.
Dogs are at risk if they come along a blowfish on the beach; licking ,sniffing or eating the blowfish even if it’s dead, will cause poisoning.
Most cases dogs are off lead, they simply run up and ingest the fish before an owner even realises it’s happened.
Please don’t wait for signs 🪧, if you even suspect your dog may have touched a blowfish please immediately take to your vets.
The blowfish contains a Tetrodotoxin even in the scales/skin of the fish
It is an extremely quick-acting poison. Within minutes, symptoms of poisoning will begin to show, and over a couple of hours paralysis will set in. Puffer fish poisoning in dogs can be deadly. Fatality is possible within as short a period as an hour.
Early blowfish poisoning symptoms include:
Vomiting
Excessive drooling
Panting / lethargy
Symptoms will then progress to:
Trembling
Wobbly walking pattern
Blue-tinged coloured gums
Dilated pupils
Muscle tremors and seizures
Quickly signs and symptoms will become more severe to include:
Difficulty breathing
Unable to blink
Complete paralysis of the whole body
Coma/ Unable to breathe

So for all of those who were waiting head on in 😊🎄♥️
You wanna ask me about my jam?
Well you see I’m a a baby blue tongue lizard , I didn’t follow
My mums advice and walked right over to a dog who decided to make a nice meal of me as the main course 😱 , now I went all karate 🥋 kid on this dog “ you should a seen my moves my left hook is amazing “
Now after I made the dog run off tail behind it’s legs I discovered this dog had actually penatrate me my scales (I thought my scales were in invincible clearly I should have stay in school 🏫)
most important though some giants walking on only 2 legs ( they seem to be called humans ) took me to the vet and they gave me a needle and medicine and cleans my wounds I Wasn’t impressed !
So then I went to nurse Kellies a for a hotel stay laying back on my new-heating pad and sun baked for 23.5 hours a a day my favourite food in a bowl each day
I’ve been told I’m getting a little chubby and i have finshed my antibiotic course and all there is left is for scales to grown back in “I’m not real worried cause chicks dig scars “ and I’m enjoying the food in a plate idea 💡
My new carers well have put me a huge avairy and although my meals each day still come pre cut and on a plate I get the sinking feeling they are trying to get me to exercise 🤔
So that’s kinda my jam- most importantly I love strawberries 🍓

Happiest of birthdays to our favourite Nurse Kellie!❤️🎉👩🏻⚕️
