What makes a Frenchies brewer tick? Over the next few months, we’ll be picking the brains of different members of our crew, and first up, we’ve got Brewer, Garth!
🍻 How do you spend your days at Frenchies?
In no particular order: cleaning, brewing, transferring and running between our two breweries.
🍻 Tell us a bit about your career to date.
After years of working in various corporate roles I landed at Dave's Brewery Tours as both the Operations Manager and as a Tour Guide. While at Dave's I saw my fellow guides become brewers and I decided that I wanted to follow suit, so I enrolled in TAFE, obtained my Certificate III in Micro Brewing, and completed a two-year apprenticeship at Slow Lane Brewing in Botany, after which I got the opportunity to join the Frenchies team.
🍻 What’s your most trusty piece of brewing equipment?
My pocket knife. From opening bags of malt and hops to tightening hose clamps, I'd be lost without it.
🍻 Talk us through your favourite beer style.
Belgian sours, Flanders Reds in particular, also Farmhouse Ales and anything from our friends at Wildflower.
🍻 What’s your go-to Frenchies beer?
The Pale Ale. To me, it's the perfect knock-off beer: hop forward yet easy drinking.

Our daily Blue Mountains tours (Roos, Blues & Views) are small group tours, so you can avoid the crowds. This is probably a bit of an extreme example 😃😃😃

Dave's Marrickville Brewery Tour has been descibed as a 'delightful stroll amongst the breweries of Marrickville'. We agree, BUT we do visit a distillery to add more delightfulness!
Friday afternoon's tour has spaces if you want the perfect start to a delightful weekend.

Whether that is on a behind the scenes tour of one of our local breweries, wineries or distillery, a walk back in time through our pub culture on a pub walk, or a corporate event – everything we do is about connecting more people to local communities.
In doing so, we are supporting the passions and dreams of those who are bringing to market some of the finest products available and making visitors aware of the toil and strife that goes into producing great drinks and food.
