Watandar, My Countryman | Humanitix 19/06/2024

The Afghan Cameleer Descendants, featured in Watandar, My Countryman are Indigenous, Colonial and Immigrants at the same time. When Muzafar decided to photograph them - in an attempt to understand his own new Afghan-Australian identity - we started filming. His experience as a former Afghan-Hazara refugee, along with his wisdom and charisma, presented a rare opportunity to re-examine Australia’s colonial history. Watandar, My Countryman touches on some of Australia and the world’s biggest geopolitical stories including the relationship between colonial, ancient and immigrant Australians, our treatment of refugees, the division between the world’s dominant religions, the success and or lack of success of the international forces in Afghanistan, and the power of individuals to create change.

Watandar, My Countryman | Humanitix Join BRMC, Ballarat Afghan Action Group and Ballarat Rural Australians for Refugees for this screening of 'Watandar, My Countryman.'

💙 Reflection of the day.

"Love and loss are intertwined, intricately woven together in the tapestry of life. Grief is the shadow of love, a reminder of the depth of our connections. Love, in turn, is the balm for our grieving hearts, a testament to the enduring power of our emotions. It is essential to acknowledge this truth, to embrace the duality of love and grief. They are two sides of the same coin, inseparable and essential in their own right."

- Stephen Jenkinson, in his book "Die Wise," eloquently captures this profound connection between love and grief. It is a powerful reminder of the complexity and beauty of our human experience.

BINS4Blokes is an Australia-wide awareness and advocacy campaign promoting the installation of incontinence bins in male public toilet facilities.

In Australia, 1.34 million men and boys live with incontinence.

The BINS4Blokes campaign will impact and change the daily lives of males of all ages who have had to deal with incontinence, mostly in secret.

To know that “sanitary bins” will be made available in male toilets will give boys and men the confidence that when their body fails them, they will have access to a “bin” for their personal use in private.
