Can you believe it’s Christmas already?!!
It’s been such a busy year. I started a new job at a new school and I’m a mum of 2 little girls, so I haven’t posted much.
I’ve done a few high teas, the biggest being the fundraising high tea for the McGrath Foundation I did with the Country Women’s Association- I’m a member of the Howard Springs branch.
Anyway, I hope you all have a safe and happy festive season!

This is where I was yesterday! Thank you to those of you who came along to support us.

We had a really lovely day and thoroughly enjoyed organising and running this fundraising event.

We are especially grateful to her Honour and her husband for attending and her generous donations for our auction. We are also appreciative of all the other donations we received for door prizes, the raffle and the auction.

Looking forward to next year’s high tea!

Have you heard this debate?

Do you put your jam on your scones first and then cream, like those in Cornwall? Or the other way around, like those in Devon?

I have heard cream teas (or high teas) have been held since the 11th century in these counties, but they differ in their approach.

I think most of us here put our jam on first because our cream is so soft. And according to this study, it is a more pleasurable experience to do it this way too.

But those in places like Devon, not Cornwall, put their cream on first, then jam. But it is my understanding that they use clotted cream, which is more buttery than our whipped cream, so the cream first works better. Plus there’s the personal preference too.

How do you like your scones?

I actually prefer butter and Vegemite on mine, but we won’t go there! 😂

The argument over which way you should put your jam and cream on your scones seems to have finally been settled by a study carried out at the University of Eastern England. Months of research have pulled together a large amount of data that appears to suggest that there is a scientific reason why putting the jam on first is the correct way.

Professor Stanley Stead-Mountfitchet, who led the research, stated “ It seems that by adding the jam first and then biting into the cream the chemical reactions created by the taste buds in the top of the mouth are tricked by the soft neutral taste of the cream, giving a sharp reaction when you reach the tangy jam. When the experiment is reversed the taste buds have already been awoken by the jam before you reach the cream, so there is less of a contrast, and because of this you don’t enjoy the sensation of eating the product so much”

The news will come as no surprise to inhabitants of Cornwall, who for years have argued that ‘jam first’ is the correct, and only way to eat scones.

This is where I was on Sunday. I donated all of my equipment for the day for a group of 50+ guests. It was a beautiful location and the CWA Litchfield women made some delectable food!

If you’d like to spoil your mum with a high tea this Mother’s Day, we have a few options:

☕️ Organise a high tea for her with her best friends &/or family
☕️ Buy her a package voucher for her to use when she wants
☕️ Buy her an open voucher of a dollar amount for her to choose her own package when she wants to use it. This could also go towards catering, as well as hire.
