WE ARE CLOSED TODAY! - To date we've never closed on catastrophic fire days - however, there's currently a large grassfire burning less than 5km away with anticipated erratic wind changes throughout the day. We have all received messages to be aware and have evacuation plans at the ready. It was only 5 years ago that our town was hit hard by the Sampson Flat Bushfires - and we simply cannot risk the safety of our patrons and staff during this period of vigilance. We deeply apologise to anyone this inconveniences - and thank you for your support and interest. Whilst were closed - we encourage you to visit any number of our mates in town instead! We love Ounce Bar at IMD and Prohibition Liquor Co for a tasty juniper-fuelled beverage!
Last night I took myself out to Musque Food & Wine for another of their fantastic Gin and Tapas nights. Imperial Measures Distilling were taking over the bar, so I wasnโ€™t going to miss out!

I first tried the Ounce Gins a couple of years ago, drawn to their stunning decanter-style bottles. The bottles are exquisite and immediately set my expectations high for some exceptional quality drinks. Upon tasting both gins, I was definitely not disappointed. The gin inside the bottle perfectly matches, perhaps even exceeds, its beautiful packaging.

Imperial Measures Distilling was born back in 2014 after many late night chats and knockoff drinks between then workmates, David Danby and Chris Jones. Their distillery is located in the suburb of Thebarton in Adelaide, where they currently produce two gins, Ounce Gin Signature and Ounce Gin Bold as well as Ruby Bitter, which is their take on an Amaro.

Ounce Gin Signature is their contemporary style gin. This gin is bright with citrus, softened with aromatic vanilla and green cardamom, has some spicy warmth from pimento and black cardamom and a lush mouthfeel from the inclusion of macadamia. Itโ€™s a bloody tasty gin, which is approachable, easy to like and even easier to drink.

Ounce Gin Bold is their London Dry style gin and is exactly what the name says: bold! Itโ€™s my fave of the two because it features a big whack of juniper up front, which, as most of you know, I just love. Itโ€™s a very savoury, herbaceous gin with a nice amount of warmth and spice from black pepper. Yep, it ticks all my boxes! As I said, this is my pick of the two and while it makes a great G&T and a ripping Martini, Iโ€™ve got to say that itโ€™s delicious sipped neat.

If youโ€™re ever in Adelaide be sure to pop in to their bar and tasting room Ounce Bar at IMD . The boys love nothing more than serving up delicious drinks and cocktails whilst shooting the breeze. In the meantime, if you like fun with a capital F, make sure you follow them on Insta. Their knockoff drink shenanigans are a hoot!
