5 years ago I made a decision that terrified me.
I walked away from a 16 year career in policing.
A secure income.â¨A defined career path.â¨A job people understood.
To build a fitness business from the ground up.
I didnât have thousands of followers.â¨I didnât have a waiting list of clients.â¨I certainly didnât have all the answers.
What I did have was a passion for helping people become stronger, healthier and more confident in themselves.
Every time a client tells me they can keep up with their kids againâŚ
â¨Walk into a gym with confidenceâŚ
â¨Feel comfortable in their own skinâŚ
â¨Or realise their body isnât brokenâŚ
I know I made the right choice.
Today I get to do meaningful work every day, helping women 40+ navigate fitness, strength, perimenopause and life.
The lesson?
You donât need certainty before you take the leap.
Sometimes you just need the courage to take the first step.
Whatâs a decision youâve made that completely changed the direction of your life? đ
The choices we make now, in this stage of life are the most important ones for our health & wellbeing đ
LIE 1 âPerimenopause is the reason youâre gaining weight.â
Truth: Perimenopause can make fat loss more challenging, but itâs not creating fat out of thin air. Most women have gradually lost muscle, reduced activity, increased stress, and are eating more than they realise.
LIE 2 âYour hormones are stopping you from losing weightâ
Truth: Hormones influence fat loss. They donât make it impossible. Blaming hormones for everything often stops women from focusing on the things they can actually control.
LIE 3 âWalking is enough to change your body in perimenopause.â
Truth: Walking is fantastic for health. But if you want a stronger, leaner, more toned body, you need resistance training. Your body wonât build muscle from a morning stroll.
LIE 4 âPilates will give you all the muscle you need.â
Truth: Pilates is great for mobility, posture & core strength. But if preserving muscle, improving bone density, & building strength are the goals, lifting weights is CRUCIAL. Pilates wonât do it.
LIE 5 âYou need a hormone balancing diet.â
Truth: Most hormone balancing diets are expensive marketing. Before buying another supplement, focus on protein, strength training, sleep, and stress management.
LIE 6 âWomen over 40 shouldnât lift heavy.â
Truth: Women over 40 need strength training more than ever. Muscle loss accelerates with age, and lifting heavy helps protect muscle, metabolism & bone density.
LIE 7 âYou need to eat less because you're older.â
Truth: Many women over 40 are already under eating. The result? Low energy, poor recovery, cravings, and a body that feels like itâs âfighting back.â
LIE 8 âYour metabolism is broken.â
Truth: Your metabolism is likely adapting to years of dieting, under fuelling, and muscle loss. That's not broken, itâs a response.
LIE 9 âHIIT is the best fat loss workout for women in perimenopause.â
Truth: Most women don't need another punishing workout. They need strength training, adequate protein, daily movement, and recovery they can sustain.
LIE 10 âYour best body is behind you.â
Truth: Some of the strongest, leanest, and most confident women I've coached are in their 40s, 50s,

Perimenopause changes things. Add ADHD to the mix and girls we got ourselves a party⌠đĽ´
Some days I feel strong, capable and completely in control.
Other days I question everything.
My energy.â¨My body.â¨My confidence.â¨My patience.â¨My reflection in the mirror.
And if youâre a woman navigating this season of life too, I want you to know something...
I see you.
I feel you.
Itâs hard enough trying to navigate the physical, emotional and mental changes that come with perimenopause (on top of ADHD!) without beating yourself up every day because your body doesnât look or feel the way it used to.
â¨The frustration of doing âall the right thingsâ and feeling like your body didnât get the memo. Sound familiar?
Iâve felt it too.
But your worth has never been determined by your dress size, the number on the scales or whether your jeans fit exactly the same as they did 10 years ago.
Your body isnât broken. Itâs changing.
And maybe the goal isnât to become who you were before.
Maybe the goal is to become the strongest, healthiest, most confident version of yourself NOW.

Our sleep is CRUCIAL as we enter our 40sâŚ
Our bodies require adequate rest to support our hormones and recovery. The problem is screens and scrolling hold us back from truly unwinding.. I am guilty of this too!
Something I am actively starting to focus more on nowadays. Whoâs with me? đ
I might not be here today if it wasnât for this procedure.
Preparing for my bi-yearly colonoscopy always makes me very emotional.
And it also makes me reflect and think about how grateful I am for this technology that could have quite literally saved my life.
Whilst the prep makes me so sick, I try to maintain my perspective through it.
We only get one shot at our health. Do yourself a favour today and think about how your health is right now...
