This mid century modern armchair frame is finally out of storage and now sanded right back to raw wood. So smooth I think I've sanded my own fingerprints off 🤣🤣🤣

Next stop is local haberdashery for some fabric for the base and back to cover the new foam we've had cut to size.

The inner metal frame has been sanded back and sprayed black to protect from further rust, and all new springs are ready to install.

So excited to see how this comes together....

🌱 The mini veggie garden has struggled in this last intensely busy year of my day job, but has now had some love and attention to try to save it from the marauding resident possum ☠️

Let's hope moving it away from the fence line makes it less accessible and that the poor bok choy, rainbow chard and spinach gets a chance to grow back from the mischevious marsupial's mightnight munchies 🥬

🍅🌱🥬🌼 I'm impressed my marigold, lettuce, basil, and tomato seed saving and sowing from last year is showing results already even in this chilly weather.

And with the garden bed relocation and refresh job now done, it's back on the tools next weekend for a long awaited return to furniture renovating! 🔨🪚🔧🪛

🌱 Seed saving and sustainability 🌱

I had such a great crop of lettuce over winter, so I let the best ones go to seed to make sure I'll have enough for the seasons ahead for family, friends, neighbours, workmates and our local garden sharing group.

It's such a joy to spend even 10 minutes a day in my little garden corner tending, trimming, training, trellising, watering and waiting 🌱

🌱 It's the first day of Spring! Although Brisbane folks could be forgiven if you think we've skipped it altogether and landed straight in the middle of Summer already 🌞

Mini tomatoes are ready to ripen, with still plenty of new fruit coming on, the lettuce is now setting seed for next season, and there's new growth sprouting everywhere.

Well that was quick! This cutie went off to her new home tonight.

🌏 I'm so pleased we've been able to give new life to preloved materials and lighten the footprint on our precious planet a little.

🫒 This light olive colour has been a long-time favourite at .

🪄 I make my own chalk paint with a custom mix of calcium carbonate to thicken and make regular water-based interior paint more durable, along with quicker drying time. A few drops of dish detergent per litre batch gives it extra silkiness that glides right on beautifully.

🧼 I prep each piece with a good clean and sand first, then undercoat and lightly sand again. The homemade chalk paint is then the perfect way to give each old piece a new, long-lasting life. I sand lightly between each layer of chalk paint, and finish with a clear coat of water-based polyurethane to seal and protect.

It's a meditative process, and workshop dog is never far from my side 🐶

✨️ The mid century modern legs are the star of the show here on this new upcycled piece. They were a roadside rescue last year from a family cleaning out a house just as I was driving by - such perfect timing!

🪚 Cutting the reclaimed VJ timber cupboard doors to size for a new table top was a challenge, but they've turned out great. A final coat of paint this week on the top before it all comes together.
