GSB embraces architecture as a disciplined balance of form, utility, density, and material efficiency. Our approach aims to make architecture more attainable.

We value structure over ornament and the intelligent use of space and materials.

True to our core principle of restore, not rebuild, this project is sustainable in the most basic sense.

New flush thresholds, enhanced functionality throughout and a self contained apartment ensure the owners can comfortably age in place.

‘Split’
Bondi, Sydney

With the anarchitecture of Gordon Matta-Clark in mind, Split celebrates voids, gaps and left-over spaces. Situated on a narrow site flanked by tall buildings either side, the proposal looks to draw in natural light through a large knife-cut in the centre of the house.

Like a cake with a piece removed, the wedged shaped void splits the house in two parts allowing light to cascade into central bedrooms and the kitchen and living areas below. Crystal clear glass bridges the void on the first floor whilst the joinery below continues the angular motif around the kitchen and fireplace, creating new storage spaces, shelves and seating.
