Beyond My Label Christmas Party will be held on the 14th of December at the Pine Rivers Bowls Club. Tickets will be $25 each. RSVP by 14 of November.

We all know how to ask the important R U OK? question today. But how do we respond when someone says they are not okay?

Chris, the Director of Psychology at Caboolture Hospital has today shared his tips on what we can do in that situation.

💛 Provide an open space for the person to keep talking: give them time and ask them to expand on the situation.
💛 Reflect back to show that you are listening: "So what you're saying is" and "I'm hearing that you" work well.
💛 Ask what they want to do moving forward: It's important to work collaboratively and for the person to feel like they have chosen their next step.
💛 Check in at a later date, not too far down the track.
💛 If they say they are not okay and are at risk of harm, ensure their safety by asking where their safe place is. You can use follow-up questions, such as:
Is it at home?
Is it going to their GP?
A phone call to lifeline?
Going to the emergency department?

"I encourage you to ask one person if they are okay today. If there is one person in your life, who would it be?" Chris said.
