A Roman Catholic Seminary preparing men for the Diocesan Priesthood in Western Australia.

St Charles’ Seminary is a place of formation for Catholic priests in Western Australia. Located east of the city in Guildford, the seminary is part of the Archdiocese of Perth and is presently under the jurisdiction of Archbishop Timothy Costelloe SDB. Once a seminarian has completed his formation and has been ordained to the priesthood, he will then serve in his own diocese. Seminarians from the

Our 2026 first semester is officially over, including the intensive weeks in which we studied Christian philosophy, RCIA, Cyber Security Policies and Practices of our Archdiocese and the Pope's newest Encyclical on AI. Now, the semenarians are going to head off to their winter break holidays either to various pastoral placements in their home dioceses or back to families. Everyone is so happy, including our Rector that he can now have some silence and peace. Please continue to pray for our discernment journeys and more vocations to priesthood.

Originally studying medical science at Curtin University and working at St John of God Hospital, Fr Joseph Laundy never expected his path would lead to priesthood.

But during an 18-month trip around the world — especially while walking through the Holy Land — he could no longer ignore what he describes as “God’s subtle but persistent call.”

“The highlight of my trip was walking through the Holy Land and experiencing the places of the Bible… it was there that I decided to resist no longer.”

Now Director of Vocations for the Archdiocese of Perth, Fr Joseph knows firsthand that discernment often begins quietly — through prayer, questions, and making space to listen.

If you’ve ever wondered whether God may be calling you too, the Vocations Discernment Retreat is an opportunity to explore that question more deeply.

The university's first semester is over for our seminarians but our intellectual formation never pauses. We are blessed to have Fr Anthony Bernal coming all the way from Melbourne to teach us Thomistic Philosophy this whole week.

“I knew I wanted to be a priest since I was about 5 years old… the calling never left me.”

Before becoming Dean of St Mary's Cathedral, Perth WA , Fr Sean Fernandez was studying engineering at Curtin University — but deep down, he knew God was calling him to build something different.

After years of prayer, discernment, and encouragement from family, parish priests, and community, Fr Sean entered seminary and was ordained a priest at just 25 years old.

Today, he says one of the greatest gifts of priesthood is “being invited into people’s lives in joy and sorrow.”

If you’ve ever wondered whether God could be calling you too, the Vocations Discernment Retreat is an opportunity to step away, pray, ask questions, and listen.

Happy Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, Our Bridegroom!

Today's Solemnity is the Church's reminder to all her children to make the Eucharist, the true Body and Blood of our Lord who is really and substantially present in his full humanity and full divinity, the lived reality, centre, source, summit and end of our existence to whom we praise, revere and serve. Likewise we are to enter into this deeper communion with our Bridegroom, live out the Eucharistic-Incarnational spirituality daily and faithfully by loving and serving one another as the members of Christ's mystical body especially those who are rejected and forgotten in the margins of our society for we all share the Lamb's one body and one chalice of precious blood. As St Paul wrote and we heard today, " there is only one loaf means that, though we are many, we form one body."

“I politely shot the idea down… but over time that question lingered and only grew louder.”

Before entering St Charles Seminary, Fr Jason Yeap was a civil engineer with plans for a very different future.

What began with one simple question from a parishioner eventually became a journey of discernment, surrender, and discovering where God was calling him.

Now ordained a priest and serving at St Mary's Cathedral, Perth WA , Fr Jason’s story is a reminder that vocation often begins quietly — through prayer, questions, conversations, and openness to where God may lead.

If you’ve ever wondered whether God could be calling you to something more, the Vocations Discernment Retreat may be the next step.
