Children should be protected, not exposed.

In Parliament we recently had a debate about inappropriate material in library children’s sections. In a surprising move the Government opposed the motion, which read:

“That this house:

(a) recognises the important role of public libraries in providing access to information and supporting literacy, learning and community life;

(b) notes community concern about age-inappropriate sexual content being accessible to children through public library services, including physical books and digital or ebook collections intended for children and young people;

(c) affirms that parents and carers should be able to trust that material made available through children's library services is suitable for children; and

(d) calls on the government to review current public library safeguards and establish a clear, independent assessment process to ensure sexual content is not made available in children's sections or digital library services intended for minors unless it has been assessed as suitable for children.”

Debate commences at 8 mins, 25 seconds.

Police Legacy Day 💙

Today we recognise the incredible work of Police Legacy here in Western Australia and across the nation.

WA Police Legacy provides welfare and support to WA Police Officers’ families when they lose their loved one. Support is there for the partner left behind and for the children until they leave full time education.

I’m wearing a Police Legacy pin today - the Michaelmas Daisy, the flower of St Michael, patron saint of police, who protects those who have sworn to serve. By wearing this pin, we honour those who continue to serve our community and remember those who are no longer with us.

On Police Legacy Day, we acknowledge the strong community behind our police families.

National Police Legacy Day is a reminder of the sacrifice made by police officers and the families who stand behind them.

Today we honour their service, remember those we have lost, and support the families who carry their legacy forward.

A win for everyone who has been affected so deeply by the Cook Labor Government's sudden decision to ban demersal fishing.

A Win For WA Fishers: this afternoon, the Opposition was successful in establishing an Inquiry into the Impact of the Demersal Fishing Ban. The Cook Labor Government should have thought about this before it imposed one of the most sudden & sweeping bans in our State’s history, not afterwards.

FDV has hit crisis point in Western Australia.

Earlier this year the Ombudsman released a report that outlined some deeply concerning findings around Family and Domestic Violence here in Western Australia - the system is broken.

The statistics will shock you. I’ll keep calling on the government to do more in this space, to help those most affected.

🌏 World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 💜

Today is a reminder of something that often goes unseen: elder abuse is far more common than many of us realise.

It can happen in any community, in any family, and it doesn’t always look the way we expect. Sometimes it’s neglect, financial pressure, isolation, or subtle disrespect - the kinds of harms that can remain hidden but deeply impact a person’s dignity and wellbeing.

Our older community members deserve so much better.

They are our storytellers, our mentors, our carers, our quiet achievers and our trailblazers. They’ve built our communities, shaped our values, and continue to contribute in ways both big and small. Their wisdom, resilience and kindness enrich our lives every day.

That’s why we all have a role to play:

- Take the time to check in on older people in your life
- Listen, really listen, to their concerns
- Speak up if something doesn’t feel right
- Show respect, patience and kindness in everyday interactions

Even small actions can make a big difference.

Let’s work together to build a community where every older person feels safe, valued, and heard - not just today, but every day. 💜

Western Australia’s Prison Crisis 11/06/2026

The current state of our justice system is unacceptable. We need a plan for our prison crisis and proper leadership for community safety.

I spoke to our Shadow Minister for Corrective Services, Adam Hort MLA, about a damning report tha .

Our prison system is in crisis.

A recent report described conditions as entirely unacceptable.

Three prisons were served with show cause notices.

This government has a lot of explaining to do.

Less information, less transparency, less honesty.

This government seems to be all about providing less and getting away with more.

They’ve kicked the can down the road when it comes to a redress scheme for victim survivors of forced adoption, leaving people without the support they are asking for - support for counselling and for connecting with lost family.

We live in hope that the government will take some real action sooner rather than later.

Western Australians deserve a government that focuses on the right priorities and delivers practical outcomes.

If elected, a Liberal National Government will:

1. Expand Healthcare Access: prioritise building a new public hospital in Yanchep and upgrade Joondalup Health Campus to deliver more healthcare services closer to where people live.

2. Extend Trading Hours: Allow major retailers in Perth to open from 8am on Sundays, giving families more flexibility and supporting local businesses with modern trading laws.

3. Develop Uranium Mining: Lift Labor’s ban on new uranium mining projects to create jobs, attract investment and unlock new economic opportunities.

4. Disclose Event Transparency: Require the public disclosure of costs, attendance figures and economic outcomes for major taxpayer-funded events.

5. Amplify Safety at Level Crossings: Improve safety at regional level crossings by requiring better lighting and visibility on trains.

6. Increase Budget Transparency: Establish an independent body to scrutinise election promises and provide voters with confidence that commitments have been properly costed.

These are practical reforms focused on increasing transparency, creating jobs, improving services and building a stronger future for Western Australia.

Palliative care is an essential service that is sorely underfunded. It plays a critical role in ensuring that people are treated with dignity. It’s National Palliative Care Week, a great time to learn more about what palliative care actually is (and isn’t) and the important role it can play in the lives of many.
