The idea was simple: make something that’ll still matter in 10, 20, 30 years. A place for the first hospital band, photos, cards, and all the little things that tell a story later on.

There’s something really satisfying about box making.

Timber, carefully cut, mitred, dry-fitted, checking for square about a hundred times... then clamps everywhere.

Still a bit to go, but the bones are there and it’s already starting to show some character.

Picked up a new book on simple Japanese furniture and thought I’d give one of the designs a crack. Ended up making this two-way braced stool — pretty simple overall but a good challenge to get all the angles right.

Just need to throw a finish on it, then it’ll be heading off to a local craft market.
