Alternate cut of the 7News Footy Promo, this time with a couple of extra shots to show off the coaches! By the time we shot the coaches I had the process pretty locked in, but the shots weren’t without their unique challenges. Both shots were filmed on perfectly flat ground so the line between the balls moving in a way that makes physical sense and not moving at all was very fine. I feel like we managed to thread that needle though. Do you agree? Directed by shot by with additional photography by and .
VFX ALERT! Incredibly proud of this promo! Over the past four weeks I’ve been strapped to Blender creating hundreds of thousands of 3D Footballs rolling down the streets of Perth. It was a complex project that required creating the balls from scratch, tracking some complex character moves, thousands of rigid body simulations and a few particle systems to create up to 300 thousand balls at a time in some shots. Look at this group of rabble rousers! Feeling very privileged to be part of this extraordinary group of people as part of the AFS Doco Residency. The people and the film projects they are working on are spectacular and I’ve never felt so wonderfully ordinary in my whole life. Photo by .luongthienhoa

I have exciting news! I’ll be heading to LA in July for two weeks as part of the American Film Showcase Documentary Residency.
I am 1 of 13 filmmakers from around the world (and the only one from Australia) who have been given the opportunity to be mentored by Academy and Emmy Award winning documentary filmmakers at the University of Southern California.
I’m excited, and humbled, and excited! Did I already say excited!?
