Perry Lakes parkrun

To our amazing Perry Lakes Parkrun family,
I have to admit, standing at the start line this morning at 7:50 AM, clutching my clipboard and watching a literal wall of torrential rain fall onto the reserve, I was fully prepared to award everyone 100 volunteer points just for showing up.

Before we officially got started, the initial battle was just finding shelter. We ended up with the entire parkrun crowd desperately trying to huddle under the main park gazebo. I ended up calling out the pre-run briefing right from underneath the gazebo to the dozens of damp, huddled faces packed in like sardines.

I knew I had to break through the soggy tension, so I threw out a massive call-and-response. I asked the crowd if they were keen to run, and the absolute roar of "YES!" that bounced back off the gazebo roof was pure electricity. The energy shifted instantly.

And right on cue, the absolute magic of parkrun happened.

As that final cheer echoed across the park, the heavens shut completely. The rain stopped dead. I’ve always known the Run Director role comes with certain powers, but I didn't realize controlling the Perth meteorology department was one of them! You're welcome.

Of course, once the sky sorted itself out, the path around West Lake turned on a beautiful, crisp morning for a run. It was fantastic to see 180+ of you absolutely flying along the course, completely re-energized by the sudden turn in the weather

A massive, deeply appreciative thank you to our incredible high-vis heroes who stood out in the freezing pre-run deluge to set up the course so the rest of us could stay relatively dry. You are the absolute backbone of this event.

Dry off, empty the water out of your sneakers, and we'll see you next week at Cup & Co for well-earned coffees!

Thanks for joining us for our Pacer Day on Saturday. Here's a little breakdown of the stats from our event.

A few pics from our event on Saturday, thanks to all our Pacers and as always thanks to the vollie crew, what we do without you!

Don't forget, this Saturday is Pacer Day.
We still have a few volunteer pacer roles available 18 mins, 21 mins, 29 mins and 40 mins.
Whilst all of our mandatory volunteer positions are taken it would be nice to have a photographer.

Yesterday we had LOADS of Volunteers. Its great to have loads of volunteers as it helps us exist. Thanks to everyone of you that has volunteered at our parkrun. Yesterday almost 200 runners and walkers benefitted from the volunteers that helped run the event.
This week along with our usual infographic of the results, we've included some historical stats.

We actually have a very busy roster this week with lots of juniors volunteering, but this does leave us with a lot of conundrums ensuring that we are following parkrun safeguarding policies and not leaving juniors isolated on the course.

Due to a withdrawal we do require one additional volunteer in a key role this week.

- Pre event setup - this should be performed by an adult or a junior can, with adult supervision. [EDIT - we very quickly had someone step into this role-thanks]

Such a delightful morning for a parkrun at Perry Lakes. Walkers, joggers, runners and our cheerful volunteers were able to enjoy the mild weather conditions and pleasant surroundings. Some recently hatched ducklings were also present.
We welcomed a visitor from Wollongong together with others from closer afield. Congratulations to those achieving milestones today: Jay (25), Mike (50), Amelia (100), and Stewart (250).

A huge thank you all the volunteers both new and experienced. We appreciate all that you do for us.

Well Done to all park runners/walkers this morning.

It was great to be at Perry Lakes today as the birds were chirping and the sun was shining.

A bonus the roster is looking full for next week.
