Wow! What an incredible weekend!
After fuel economy issues being our main addressable problem from the last event, along with a few mechanical issues that were quickly rectified (a bad rear and center differential), the team got stuck right into this practice. Lex gave the car its first shakedown and happily green-lit the rest of the team to get familiarized with the respect this WRX demands to be driven well. Harley, our German-imported driver, got a good bit of time in the vehicle, as it was his first time back in the car in over a year. Tannah then got a moment to go and get some nicer times and qualify us for the top 10 shootout, which she absolutely did. We then got the car ready after qualifying in 9th place for the shootout. Tannah had some nerves but was definitely locked in and came back into the pits, flexing a very impressive personal best (PB) for the car of 53.691 on the Collie short track, a time to be very proud of, this put us 4th out of 36 cars and certainly reminded the rest of the paddock just how capable our car is, especially with someone like Tannah behind the wheel! With emotions high and happy, we moved into the evening, aware of the challenge ahead of us.
The next day, we had Michael, aka Kingy, in the car first. He was our most confident selection to send out onto a cold, slippery track full of drivers who might be a little too excited. He did very well, setting down a 1:30 on the wet, slippery long track. Next up, we had Tannah, after she proved just how capable she was yesterday. Within a short amount of time, our first curveball was pitched at us: we had some bad fuel pressure issues. Around 5000rpm, our car was coughing and spluttering. We spent most of Friday replacing fuel filters, cleaning the injectors, and checking our crossover pipe and fuel pump, finally rectifying most of our issues by that afternoon. We sent the car out with Willis once again behind the wheel, and he confirmed that the car seemed a bit happier. A little more tinkering, and we came to the conclusion that all of our problems should be resolved.
In the crisp morning of Saturday, our hard work was put to the test as we saw Willis back out to see if we had fixed all our known issues. Some very impressive driving was to be seen, and we could only assume the car was happy. Willis went to work and put on a display of very impressive overtakes, working closely by Matt 'bocconcini' from BAR Honda. They worked side-by-side to move together through a pack, taking absolutely no prisoners. Willis managed to get himself a 1:27—it was a real spectacle to view! In no time, Willis came back in for fuel and a driver swap. The car was fixed and working as it should. Next out was Harley for his first real door-to-door experience in the car. After watching from the sideline, Harley took little time to start following in Willis's footsteps. In the same rhythm as the rest of the team, he flowed the car well and put out some consistent, respectable times, punching out a 1:26—the quickest time for the car that weekend so far. Trust us, that’s pretty damn quick! Next in the car was Lex. While refueling the car, a spillage meant a 150-point penalty had to be paid first via a game of Velcro soccer and an inflatable dartboard. Once this torture was over, he got in the car and chased after the same goal the rest of the team had their eyes on. With a slightly damp track from some expected sprinkles of rain, Lex continued the chase and put down a 1:28, fitting in well with the rest of the team with consistent laps. With the rain, we then saw Michael back in—that is his preferred set of conditions, and he went out to show us why. Our car was seen taking anyone and everyone; Michael sure knows how to mow down people in the wet! As time went on, we got Tannah back in the car to finish things up. She went out with vengeance; she wanted to take that PB off Harley while still driving within the track limits. Some very hard but consistent driving saw Tannah scrape just behind Harley by 0.002 seconds—just not enough. To preserve the car, fuel, and wallets, Tannah then continued to circulate the car right until it came across the finish line. High fives, sighs of relief, and an overbearing feeling of pride and joy surrounded the team. We had put on a very nice display of what our car and every one of its drivers are capable of.
As always, an absolutely massive thank you to our sponsors this year. We wouldn't be able to do this without you; you are truly our fuel for these events. Thank you so, so much! A big thank you to Murph and his team Trash Torque. You and your boys are the best pit neighbors a team could ask for! Another big thank you to all of our supporters, friends, and family. The kind words and bright faces that come to visit bring a very welcomed warmth to the team! And finally, a huge thank you to everyone within our Wrex'd Up Racing team. I myself, as well as everyone else involved—Michael, Clare, Carly, Will, Willis, Harley, Higin, and Tannah—should always be so very proud of what we have and can achieve.
An extra special thank you to Clare AKA Race Mums, you organise and fuel us to always put on our best performances, we wouldn't be what we are without you!
We will be back, bigger, badder, and faster. Bring on next year!

2025 Season Update: Overcoming Adversity
We're thrilled to kick off the 2025 season with a remarkable achievement. Just days before the first BEERS 1000 race series, our WRX developed a hairline crack in one of the heads, leaking water into the exhaust. Undeterred, our team rallied together to assemble and install a new motor, ensuring timely delivery to Collie for testing.
The WRX underwent careful testing, with our drivers gradually pushing the motor to its limits. As the engine wore in, we noticed a significant change in its pitch and exhaust note. After the first day, an oil change revealed an impressive amount of fine wear material, indicating the engine was bedding in properly.
With the green light to run on full boost, the car excelled, managing heat and traffic with ease. Consistently lapping at 1:30 times around the track, with numbers ranging from 1:28 to 1:26, we're excited to be in the upper echelon of the tournament.
Reliable, Fast, and Comfortable
After overcoming the engine swap challenge, our car has finally settled into a reliable, fast, and comfortable setup. We're eager to showcase our progress at the 24-hour race at Carco.com.au Raceway in Waneroo.
The flow on track was just as good, if not better, in the pits, with hands on support from our whole team ran like the car, a well oiled machine.
A huge thank you, we're so grateful for the ongoing support of our existing sponsors and welcome our new partners this year. Your backing enables us to compete at this level. We're committed to improving our results and bringing your companies to the forefront of competition.
The 24-hour race is just two months away. Check the BEERS Motorsport page for dates, times, and details on how to attend and cheer us on!
