[10/15/17] Whilst workplace first aid compliance is important, have you thought of running emergency and incident exercises to test your staff? Chief Medical can do this, with some added non-accredited training for your non first aid employees. Contact us today to discuss your workplace needs, we even do the make-up!!
[09/28/17] Thinking of doing our next Provide First Aid public course on a weekend in November, in Mandurah. Please pm to register your interest.
Are your employees first aid compliant? Why is this important to your organisation?
First aid and CPR training has undeniable benefits in your workplace, for one it increases safety awareness and enables a work group to discuss the relevant hazards in their areas.
It enables the trained employees to know exactly where their first aid resources are, what they contain, how to use them, and most importantly, how to respond when an incident occurs.
This saves lives, period.
The statistics in Australia cannot be ignored, as stipulated by Fire and Safety Australia;
Only 13% of employers are compliant with the First Aid national code of practice (This code of practice requires employers to implement training for first aiders, first aid procedures and have sufficient first aid kits and signage)
Over 65% of employers are unaware of their obligations under the First Aid code of practice.
Only 31% of Australian workers feel confident in how to response to a workplace first aid emergency
Less than 50% of workplaces currently offer First Aid training to their employees
Finally, and sadly, according to Red Cross, less than 5% of Australians as a whole are trained in First Aid. There are 300 fatalities per year simply through drowning, many of which could be avoided by knowing cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
In your workplace, can you afford both financially and psychologically, to not have sufficient personnel trained in first aid? Unfortunately this critical skill is often at the bottom of the barrel for many managers. I encourage all job seekers to ask this question at your next interview – “Do you have a first aid program and trained personnel”? That could be the difference between your survival and demise at your next workplace.
It’s a low cost initiative that increases the health and safety awareness in your organisation. We preach health and safety every day, now is the time to put it in to practice.
Food for thought.
