As Reconciliation Week 2026 almost draws to a close, Reconciliation WA has shared a mini podcast series: the All In Series.

We encourage everyone to take a moment to hear the stories of First Nations people. This series features June Oscar, a proud Bunuba woman, nyima tucker, a Ngarluma, Banjima and Yamatji woman and Frank Mitchell, a proud Whadjuk-Whadjuk Noongar man.

We all have a part to play in reconciliation, take a listen.

Juniper has started a refurbishment project to reopen St Andrews Residential Aged Care Home in Balcatta, adding 76 much-needed beds for older Western Australians.

The overhauled Juniper St Andrews, next to our Balcatta headquarters, will be more welcoming with better way finding, support social interaction with a bigger café and create greater connection between indoor and outdoor areas.

Juniper CEO Russell Bricknell said beds will be available in half the time it would take to build a new residential aged care home.

“To bring St Andrews up to operational standard will take about 18 months, which is significantly shorter than building a new aged care home. This project means we will be able to provide a safe and comfortable home for customers relatively quickly,” Russell said.

“Juniper is working hard to contribute to growing aged care bed numbers and we are looking forward to State and Federal Government support in achieving this.”

Juniper Hayloft residents headed to Mr Peters Orchid Farm in Armadale earlier this month for a morning of fruit picking, returning home with baskets of fresh, in-season produce and plenty of happy memories. 🍎

"The residents love getting out and about to experience something new, or something they haven't been able to do for a long time," said Residential Manager Tash Kiernan.

"The fruit picking was a fantastic trip down memory lane. They were able to reminisce, connect with nature and enjoy the tangible reward of fresh, homegrown produce," said Personal Care and Activities Assistant Nancy Soriano.

Nancy and Tash work closely together each month to find venues that are safe, secure and accessible, bringing in additional staff, including Occupational Therapy Assistant Lilia to make sure every resident is well supported throughout the day.

Last week, residents from our two Northam homes came together to enjoy a visit from a balloon artist! 🦁🎈

Residents from Juniper The Residency and Juniper Bethavon spent the morning admiring the designs and leaving with a balloon animal to call their own.

It's so lovely to see residents from neighbouring homes connecting with each other over fun activities like this one.

Last Friday, Juniper Annesley residents got a special visit from a local animal farm, all thanks to two very motivated Juniper volunteers.

For the past year, Lyn and Carol have been a familiar and popular presence at Juniper Annesley, running a snack trolley for residents each fortnight.

This Volunteer Week, they did something a little extra special, raising money for and bringing an animal farm visit to the Annesley residents.

"A lot of the people here are animal lovers," Lyn said. "You go into their rooms and they've all got photos of their dogs and cats."

It was a morning full of smiles, and not just from the residents. Staff took turns holding the animals too, including Residential Manager Asha Kayaga.

For Lyn, days like this are why she volunteers. "They do more for me than what I do for them. They're like our other family."

Carol said the connection with residents is what makes it worthwhile. "They look forward to you going. You build a connection."

A fulfilling day looks different for everyone. For some it's a walk in the garden, for others it's time with family or staying active in their community.

At Juniper, we work hard to understand what that means for each person and make it possible.

We're so proud to share this result from our independent customer experience survey, conducted late last year across all of Juniper's services including residential care, retirement living, home care and transition care.

Earlier this month, residents of Juniper Gerdewoonem in Kununurra enjoyed a spontaneous trip to Molly Springs and collected some native bush flowers along the way, which happened to make the perfect Mother's Day gift. 💐

It was the residents themselves who sparked the idea. After hearing them talk about local bush flowers, boab nuts and the significance of Molly Springs, together with residents, Residential Manager Belinda Storer took a bus one afternoon and headed out into the Kununurra landscape.

"I parked where they could see everything I was doing, and they told me what to pick, how to pick it, and what to look for. They were my teachers, like instructing their kids."

The trip home to country meant a lot, especially for resident Molly, whose home country is Molly Springs. "Just to get her refreshed and feel connected to her station and her home, that was really the importance of that trip," Belinda said.

The next morning, for Mother's Day, Belinda made up small bunches from the flowers they had collected and gave one to each resident.

"There needs to be more of it. It melts my heart, that's what I love doing."

This Reconciliation Week, Reconciliation WA is hosting a memoir featuring June Oscar, a proud Bunuba woman from Fitzroy Crossing, indigenous rights advocate, filmmaker, and former Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner at the Australian Human Rights Commission (2017–2025).

The memoir will explore June's life's work, the challenges and triumphs of advocacy, and her vision for the future of reconciliation in Western Australia.

A morning tea was held at Juniper St David's earlier this week to celebrate the volunteers who show up for our residents and staff, week after week. 💜

"We celebrated them with great joy and immense pride for the ongoing commitment, compassion, and generosity they continue to share with our residents and staff," Residential Manager Rose Bonete said.
