Swell-noise attenuation with artificial intelligence | DUG Technology Artificial intelligence (AI) is the science of making computers “think” like humans. Machine learning (ML), a subset of Al, uses data to train computers how to “think”. Deep learning (DL) uses multi-layered neural networks to interpret more intricate patterns in data. DL excels in analysing ...

Multi-vintage, multi-survey model-building with FWI | DUG Technology A JV project between TGS and DUG, the “Peninsular Malaysia Mega Merge 3D” involves 39 different surveys (including 3 OBC surveys). With data vintages from 1989 to 2014 the combined area is over 17,000 square kilometres. FWI was used to build a detailed, high-resolution velocity model up to a max...

Do your gathers hang low, do they wobble to and fro? | DUG Technology Some form of anisotropy is always expected. Anisotropy, or the variation of wave propagation as a function of direction, can be caused by a number of factors. These include grain alignment, stress and fracture sets. An understanding of anisotropy is not only necessary for imaging but also for insigh...

Exciting news!
We are pleased to announce that our recent order of Intel® Xeon® CPU Max Series machines, each with 1 terabyte of RAM, has now been deployed.
In addition, we are investing in a large number of AMD EPYC™ Genoa machines, each with 1.5 terabytes of RAM, to support growth of the Services business line.
It is very exciting to see our HPC capabilities grow in response to the increasing demand for our services. The Intel machines are already benefiting our active MP-FWI projects. The AMD machines are needed to accelerate delivery of both current and imminent projects, and to support the unprecedented demand we continue to see moving forward.
These are exciting times indeed.

Bayes’ Theorem is used for all sorts of things—including machine learning and decision support.
Click the link below to read how we use a Bayesian classification framework to produce fluid and lithology probability volumes from 3D seismic data—and learn a little bit about the beauty of Bayes.
The beauty of Bayes | DUG Technology Inversion is a tricky business. It involves predicting the cause from observations of the effects. Inverse problems don’t have a unique solution so they need to be constrained via an “objective function” which basically says “let’s keep it simple” and match the observations. Inversion al...
