π NATIONAL BREAST CANCER FOUNDATION FUNDRAISER π
Breast Cancer β a disease that can affect both Men and Women
π 1 in 7 Women will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer in their lifetime
π 1 in 500 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime
Sharon, our Operations Manager, shares with us her reason for going pink this June.
π Close to home as it is to many β my dear old mum was diagnosed 5 years ago, at the age of 80, resulting in a left mastectomy, and months of overwhelming emotions. An urgent surgery, followed by a trial of chemo, that was unbearable, turned to weeks of Radiotherapy, loss of hair, and nails, my mum is a battler and soldiered through the pain and emotions of this horrid disease. πͺ
Watching her shave her head and embrace her look-alike wig. Travelling everyday to the hospital for treatment became an adventure β love you Mum X
TODAY, 5 years on, my mum received the βall clearβ from her Specialist β she is free of her 5 year medication regime and is a breast cancer survivor. π Early detection and the latest technology and research has given both Men and Women improved treatment options and a higher survival rate. This is such a worthy cause, if you only donate once this year, make it Cancer Research! πΈ

πΆβ¨ Last week, baby Parker came into the clinic with his mum for their 6-week check-up with Dr. Julia Marcello. He's a very happy and healthy baby, bringing an abundance of joy to his mum, dad, and everyone here at Western Obstetrics!
During your 6-week postnatal check, our GP Obstetricians conduct a comprehensive assessment for both mum and baby. We focus on your adjustment, feeding and settling, mental health, and physical recovery. Immunisations can also be administered to your baby between 6-8 weeks.

We are looking for mums that have had a vacuum or forceps assisted birth in the last 12 months to complete an anonymous online survey. This research project is supervised by our lactation consultant Sharon Perrella. Findings from the study will help to identify the specific needs of breastfeeding mums after an assisted vaginal birth.
For more information please contact [email protected]

β FAQ: Is water birth a safe option for the birth of my baby?
πββοΈ Answer: Yes, current evidence shows water birth to be safe. Studies have revealed that babies born in the water and on land have similar health outcomes. Water birth is an option for low-risk birthing women at some hospitals. If you would like to consider using water for labour and/or birth, your midwife can discuss the potential benefits and risks with you at your next visit. ππΆ

β FAQ: My Midwife has chatted about βskin to skinβ at birth, what are the benefits of this?
β
ANSWER: Skin-to-skin care, also known as Kangaroo Care, has incredible benefits for both newborns and parents, especially right after birth. Hereβs why itβs so important:
β‘οΈ Enhances Bonding: Promotes a strong emotional connection between baby and parents.π€±
β‘οΈ Regulates Temperature: Helps maintain the babyβs body temperature naturally.π‘οΈ
β‘οΈ Stabilises Vital Signs: Regulates heart rate and breathing, promoting overall stability.π
β‘οΈ Encourages Weight Gain: Supports healthy weight gain through frequent breastfeeding.π
β‘οΈ Boosts Breastfeeding: Increases the chances of successful breastfeeding by stimulating milk production.π€±
For this reason, at Western Obstetrics we provide you with a beanie for baby at your 36 week appointment. Make sure to pack this in your hospital bag so you can keep bub's head nice and warm whilst you embrace those first moments with your little one through the magic of skin-to-skin care! π
